CONVOCATION OPENS COLLEGE'S 239th YEAR. 
Speaking on the topic of leadership, President James Wright referenced the South African concept of "ubuntu." Wright said, "Such understanding of shared engagement in common causes lies at the root of the leadership needed today, for it brings with it humility, a fundamental respect for others, and a deep sense of responsibility that motivates action." Keynote speaker Tommy Clark '92 DMS '01 advised first-years to find "where your talent lies," while Molly Bode '09 urged students to "leave room for the unexpected."

PAULSON '68, BERNANKE, GEITHNER '83 FORGE A COMMITTEE OF THREE. 
A Sept. 19 Washington Post article highlights the partnership between two Dartmouth alumni and the Federal Reserve Chairman that formed during the financial turmoil. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson '68 also appears on the cover of the current issue of Newsweek.

FIRST CHAIR OF DIGITAL HUMANITIES APPOINTED. 
Editor of the book, "re: skin," Professor of Film and Media Studies Mary Flanagan (who has Star Wars figures on her web page) asks if video games can incorporate some human values. Article from Nashua Telegraph. Read about Flanagan and other new members of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Vox.

GEORGE MITCHELL TO OPEN "CONFLICT AND RECONCILIATION" SERIES. 
The former senator and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom will discuss his work to end hostilities in Northern Ireland at an event that kicks off a College-wide series.

SHONDA RHIMES '91 REFLECTS ON DARTMOUTH.
"I was a bookworm for the subjects I loved, and I was definitely a slacker the rest of the time," says Rhimes in the U.S. News and World Report's "Celebrity College Flashback." Rhimes is the creator of the television show Grey's Anatomy.

FORMER SPORTS ILLUSTRATED WRITER BROOKS CLARK '78 SPEAKS WITH DARTMOUTH'S OLYMPIC GOLD WINNER.
Adam Seiterle '98 says of his training, "It's teaching your body that no matter what injury you've got here or there, you're nowhere close to death, and you can give a little more."

ZIPCARS TO BECOME AVAILABLE IN HANOVER.
Soon two Toyota Prius hybrid cars will be on campus through the Zipcar program, part of Dartmouth's initiative to ease employees' commute.
