About NAAAD The idea of a Native American Alumni Association at Dartmouth began with Arvo Mikkanen '83; however, it did not take off until 1997 when a group of alumni met at the annual NIEA conference and elected officers. The purpose of NAAAD is to provide a forum for Native American Alumni to meet and discuss issues of importance to Native American people and to further the interest, welfare and educational purposes of Dartmouth. In May 2005, a new NAAAD ruling council was elected by electronic vote. Debbie Atuk Tu '04 was elected as president, Ryan Howard '01, Nehomah Thundercloud '97 and Liz Sumida '98 were elected as members-at-large. During the summer of 2005 the ruling council revitalized NAAAD. They created the Green Messenger, the NA alumni newsletter and the new NAAAD website.
