The idea of a Native American Alumni Association at Dartmouth began with Arvo Mikkanen '83; however, it did not take off until 1997 when a group of alumni met at the annual NIEA conference and elected officers. 

The purpose of NAAAD is to provide a forum for Native American Alumni to meet and discuss issues of importance to Native American people and to further the interest, welfare and educational purposes of Dartmouth.
