President Jack Sutton, not present due to a health problem, was represented by Vice-President Loye Miller and the meeting was called to order at 8:13.  Before proceeding, Henry Nachman reported that President Sutton is enduring a heart problem, is under medical care at his local hospital and is expected to require a surgical procedure and to return soon to normal health.

1.  The minutes of the September 29, 2007 meeting were approved.

2.  Treasurer Ed Weisenfeld gave his report dated 6-30-08 which will become part of these minutes.  Class dues will remain at $50.  Highlights include class dues participation at 61%, expenses of $19,191 just over receipts of $18,951 and a healthy bank balance of $8,723.

After a lengthy discussion of projects the class will support, it was M/S/P to delete the usual gift of $1,000 for student activities; to withhold $1,000 for Hopkins center Student Workshop unless their program is ended because of our non-participation; to give $1,000 to the Athletic Sponsor program; to hold in reserve $1,000 for class projects as submitted by Bob Hustek, and the balance of $ 5,000 total gifts to our Memorial Scholarship fund.  The latter now stands at $111,675.00.

3.  The Dartmouth College Fund report was submitted in writing (and is part of these minutes) to the committee, Dave Saxton, Class Agent, not being present.  The 2008 goal of $151,000 was exceeded with a grand total of $182,384 and a participation of 67.1%

4.  Webmaster Al Brout reported 4500 hits on our web page and that information on our web page includes:  newsletters, DAM notes, obituaries, executive committee minutes among other class information.

5.  The Memorial Scholarship Fund had two scholars this year.  One graduated and his replacement has not been announced.  The Financial Aid office will notify us in due time.  Caroline Wunsch ’10 continues as out scholar.

6.  Herb Knight’s gift Planning Report of 9-16-08 is a part of the minutes.  Highlights include:  44 living Bartlett Tower Society (BTS) members and 15 deceased.  This year’s goal is 14 more living BTS members.

7.  Rick Peck from the Gift Planning Office made a presentation to the Committee of the various ways alumni can make gifts, either outright or bequest or life income plans such as annuities, trusts and pooled income funds.  He believes that our Herb Knight is one of the most dedicated, knowledgeable and successful class bequest chairs the College has.

8.  A Spring-mini for 2009 in Boston is in the advanced planning stages.  Scheduled for April 23-26, activities will include a Thursday night informal get together with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a tour highlighting the history of Boston, museum visits, dinner at a historically important restaurant and a dinner cruise on the Charles River and a Sunday brunch to conclude the reunion.  A block of rooms has been reserved at $149 per night at the Midtown Hotel.  A tab of approximately $450 per person not including the hotel will be the probable cost.  A show of hands willing to attend (8x2) means the rest of the class will have to bring the total up to 50 in order to fill a bus.  Much less than that will cause the mini to be cancelled as uneconomic.  Deadline for go/no go for this mini is mid January.

9.  The Fall 2009 mini will be October 2-3 with Penn as the football opponent.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:36.

Respectfully submitted,

Peirce McKee
