Obituary August Karl Muggenthaler

August K. Muggenthaler died on April 15, 2007 of dementia.  He was born in Munich, Germany, attended the Collegiate School in New York City and served in Army counter-intelligence from 1944 to 1947. At Dartmouth Gus majored in history, married Iris Frampton (Wellesley '51) a week after graduation and spent the next year at Columbia earning a M,A. in diplomatic history. 

The following year he went to work at Newsweek Magazine where he spent 23 years as an assistant editor.

A move to Vermont with employnment with the state, and later to work at the Shelburne Museum  which carried him through to retirement. 

His hobby was offshore sailing out of Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, Centre Island, New York.  Gus is survived by his wife Iris and daughter Liz.
