Fred Mason Weare
Fred Mason Weare, 'Mace' as he was known by family and friends, passed away on March 14, 2007 at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes Estates, CA after a lengthy illness. He was born in Newton, MA in 1929 and his family eventually settled in Kenilworth IL. After graduating from New Trier High School, he went on to Dartmouth where he majored in sociology. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Eplson fraternity and a member of Dragons. While at college he skied and was on the debate team.
He followed in his father's footsteps when he went into the shoe business, becoming an executive of the Florsheim Shoe Company in Chicago. After 17 years there he moved to Southern California where he became a salesrepresentative for Harbor Footwear, an importer. He maintained an office in the California Apparel Mart and had the entire west coast for a territory. He stayed with Harbor for 20 years.
Mace loved golf and was a member of the Palos Verdes Country Club. He also enjoyed duplicate bridge and was an avid reader. He and his wife Patti traveled the world and their favorite vacations were on cruise ships.
Surviving Mace are his wife of 35 years Patti, and four daughters, Bambi Bryant Harris, Brook Bryant Kennedy, Kelly Bryant and Robin Weare, as well his older brother John Weare.
Mace was a friend of Bill W. for over 30 years. He was grateful for a long and successful life. Mace always said that "a successful life is good luck, good timing and hard work." Mace accomplished it all.
