1952 Obituary
On November 28,
2005 John R. Shuman died. His
home was in Piedmont, California. A native Californian, Jack came to Dartmouth
from Lowell High School in San Francisco. He majored in Philosophy and was a
member of Delta Tau Delta and Casque and Gauntlet.
After Navy service
as operations officer on a destroyer, Jack returned to San Francisco where he
joined his father's stock brokerage firm, which he eventually headed. In 1974
he branched out and formed a separate investment advisory firm. It was a
success. As Jack related in a part of his very funny report in the '52 fiftieth
year book, "if one happens to launch an investment counseling firm on the
eve of a 22 year 13-fold advance of the Dow Jones Index, he is apt to make a
few successful investments and have at least several happy clients".
Jack leaves behind his wife, Josephine, and
three children - John ''78, Lauren, Stephen, and two grandchildren.
