Ralph Lynch Jr. died of cancer on November 7, 2005. Ace, as he was known to his classmates, was born in Pittburgh, attended Shady Side Academy, and was the son of a Dartmouth '17 graduate. Ace studied law at the University of Pittsburgh and lived in that city until his death. His specialty was public finance and he did a lot of it. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, in an obituary, said that he "literally helped build Pittsburgh as bond counsel on projects including Three Rivers Stadium". Ace also served as City Solicitor for four years.
A varsity baseball
pitcher at Dartmouth, he had previously pitched for an army team during
military service from 1946 to 1948. Ace's first wife, Judy, died in 1985. He is
survived by his wife, Millicent, and four children, Carol, Cindy, Debbie, and
Michael in addition to ten grandchildren, one great-grandson, and his brother
Hugh '50. You were an Ace - we'll
miss you.
