Stephen Mandel
MANDEL--Stephen Frank, of Darien, CT, of pneumonia, on September 11th at
Stamford Hospital. Born in New York at Doctors' Hospital on April 27, 1931, of
Dorothy Buchman Mandel and Richard Henry Mandel. He was a graduate of Phillips
Exeter Academy, Dartmouth College and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Safford Mandel, and his sons, Stephen F. Mandel,
Jr., and his wife, Susan, of Greenwich, CT, and Edward Safford Mandel and his
wife, Betsy, of Chevy Chase, MD, five grandchildren: Kate, Ben, Tom, Ned and
Mollie Mandel, and his brother, Richard H. Mandel, Jr., of Denver, CO. In his
professional career he was President of Allstate Welding Products in Elmsford,
NY, and International Welding Products in Greenwich, CT. As a longtime community
leader, he was devoted to the Darien Library, where he was Board President and
an Honorary Trustee; Explorer Post 53 Emergency Medical Service; Gallivant; as
president of the Darien Community Fund (United Way); and Dartmouth College,
among many others. A private service in his memory will be held for his family.
