DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE
CLASS NOTES
January-February 2008

1954 Abundant sunshine, tepid temperatures, a winning football team, and three well-planned events welcomed returning '54s to the 2007 Homecoming Weekend. Friday afternoon's class and executive committee meeting, followed by a pre-parade and Dartmouth Night rally cocktail party, and topped off by a superb Saturday night banquet at the Hanover Inn, all contributed to making this weekend a truly lovely experience for classmates and their spouses. Attending one or more of the weekend's events were: Jean and Bob Adnopoz, Ellie and Walt Anderson, Barbara and Dick Barker, Sheila and Don Belcher, Barbara and Don Berlin, Fay and Bob Berry, Fleur and Jay Chandler, Stan Clark, Carol and Rip Coffin, Martha and Jay Davis, Kit and Bob Dean, Peter Dwight, Natalie and John Fenn, Judy and Mort Galper, Sandy and John Gillespie, Sarah and Ben Gilson, Mary and Alec Gray, Bill Grover, Anne and Rick Hartman, Betty and John Heston, Carol and Ron Jabara, Sonja Rand and Tony Kane, Mary and Bob Kenny, Anne and Dana Low, Tom Malcolm, Rosemary and Dave Mandelbaum, Peggy and Dan McCarthy, Steve Mullins, Debby and Hugh Nolin, Patty and Bob Osmond, Jane and Dick Page, Carol and Harry Robinson, Connie and Jack Smith, Joan and Jim Tofias, Dick Trowbridge, Shelia and Wayne Weil, Elisabeth and Shelly Woolf and Cynthia Sunderland and Gary Zwart. Once again, Mini-reunion chair John Fenn deserves accolades for orchestrating a memorable '54 experience. Highlighting Saturday's dinner was the presentation to Dan McCarthy of the prestigious 1954 Class Award.

President Jay Davis announced the formation of the Nominating Committee for class officers who will begin service after the 55th Reunion in June, 2009. Dave Mandelbaum will chair the committee and be assisted by Tom Kelsey, Steve Mullins and Dick Page.

It's not too early to send your suggestions to Mandy at: rmmandy@optonline.net

To help the class save megabucks in paper, printing and postage costs, classmates are encouraged to send Newsletter Editor Pete Barker an e-mail message at: PGBarker54@aol.com and indicate that they'd like to receive newsletters electronically via e-mail attachment or by viewing the newsletter on the class Web site.

Pete Bullis and other members of the Indian Chiefs, that great Dartmouth jazz band of the 1950s, are in the process of videotaping their history and would appreciate obtaining memorabilia anyone has, such as photos, recordings, etc. Let Pete know at: mpbullis@comcast.net.

Don Belcher reports that he and Sheila, on their long trip from Seattle to Hanover for Homecoming, stopped in to see Betsy and Bob Martin at their home in Grosse Point, MI. Bob continues to be an arbitrator in construction disputes, and Betsy leads a group helping in support programs for a large nursing home.

Strong Executive Committee support, via a motion made, seconded and adopted, was given to the action of the Trustees of Dartmouth College in increasing the number of trustees by adding eight charter members.

Sad to report the deaths of Brooks Lyle and Stew Stearns (see obituary).

     Mark your calendars: 1954's 55th Reunion is scheduled for June 16, 17, 18, 2009 (Monday-Wednesday).
