Stuart Jonathan Bugbee, Jr., Stuart Jonathan Bugbee, Jr., died of a massive heart attack on March 23, 2008, after suffering from heart disease for the past 17 years. Born and brought up in Charleston, West Virginia, Jon majored in Architecture at Dartmouth and was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa and the French and Ledyard Canoe clubs. He served two years in the Army after graduation and then went on to get an advanced degree in Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania in 1960. The following nine years were spent with various architectural firms, culminating in the opening of his own firm in 1969 in center city Philadelphia. In 1979, Jon closed his office and joined The Ballinger Co., also in Philadelphia, and worked as a Project Architect on the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center and served as membership chairman with the Philadelphia chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He retired after a stint with Bower Lewis Thrower Architects, designing high profile, high-end products, including major casinos in Atlantic City. Jon greatly enjoyed and was active as an officer and director of many civic organizations, including the Merion Civic Association, the Botanical Society of lower Meron and the American Legion, to mention a few. He was also Ruling Elder and president of the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. Surviving Jon are his wife of 52 ½ years, Barbara, two children, David and Tim, both of Narberth, Pennsylvania and four grandchildren. A daughter, Karen Bugbee Dove and a son, Chip, predeceased Jon. |
