RICHARD EDWARD ARMSTRONG

died on May 3, 2001 in Palo Alto, California after several years of fighting cancer. Dick came to Dartmouth from South Pasadena San Marino High School.

He was a brother Delta Tau Delta and a member of the Yacht Club and the Russian Club. As (Regular) NROTC, he was commissioned in June 1954 and served 3 years on active duty after which he remained in the U.S. Naval Reserve retiring as Captain.

After his active Naval service, Dick attended Harvard Law School for a year then graduated with honors from Graduate School of Business at the University of California in Berkeley in 1960 with an MBA in Corporate Finance. He began his business career with General Electric and over the years he was financial officer in a number of Bay Area companies in the nuclear, construction, electronics and food industries. He retired in 1994 but continued consulting.

He enjoyed traveling, savoring a Trans-Siberian Railroad journey some years ago. Summers were spent with his family on Lake Tahoe.

He was married in 1961 to Jane Anderson and remained a widower following her death in 1980. He is survived by his brother, Gregory B. Armstrong, D’58, his children, Gregory G. Armstrong, Richard E. Armstrong III and Amy Armstrong Phillips and 4 grandchildren.
