Karl Chapman Davis died February 8, 2004, in Brattleboro, Vermont, after a long battle with emphysema. Karl came to Dartmouth from Burr & Burton Seminary in Manchester, Vermont, where he played varsity football and captained the ski team. Karl, a Sigma Chi and roommate of Dave Grogan (dec. 3/97), withdrew from college in his junior year and entered the United States Army. For the next two years, Karl patrolled the East German border in the Fulda Gap area as part of an armored cavalry unit. After completing his military service, Karl returned to Manchester, joined the family heating and plumbing business, and served on the Bromley Mountain ski patrol. Karl married and had a son, Scott, in 1968. In 1974, Karl began working for Culligan International in Jacksonville, Florida, where he remained until returning to his beloved Vermont in 1988. Karl is survived by his son, Scott, of Tampa, Florida, two grandchildren, Daniel and Luke Davis, and two sisters, Betty Sawyer and Nancy Irons. Karl was a loving and devoted father who never missed any of his son’s ballgames. He is missed and remembered with love. |
