Nominations for Granger Award

LESTER GRANGER ’18 AWARD

February 1, 2003

Dear Friends,

I write to seek your nominations for a graduate of Dartmouth College to receive the Lester B. Granger Award. This award was established in 2002 to honor Lester Granger and to celebrate the William Jewett Tucker Foundation’s 50th anniversary. The Granger Award is presented annually by the Tucker Foundation to a Dartmouth College graduate whose commitment to public service has been exemplary.

The Granger Award strengthens the link between Dartmouth College and Dartmouth alumni in their dedication to community and public service, social activism or nonprofit professions. In keeping with the mission of the William Jewett Tucker Foundation to further the spiritual and moral work of Dartmouth College, the Granger Award serves not only to recognize the work of individuals, but also to highlight the importance of public service in the lives of our graduates.

The Granger Award Selection Committee includes staff from the Tucker Foundation along with representatives from the Tucker Board of Visitors, Alumni Relations, Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, and current Dartmouth students. The recipient of the Granger Award will be invited to campus so that s/he may spend time with students, speak at a reception or function held in his/her honor, and participate in other campus activities. A student will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship in honor of the 2003 Lester B. Granger 1918 Award recipient. This year’s award recipient will work with members of the Tucker Foundation staff to select the student scholarship recipient. Last year’s award recipients were Edward B. Marks '32 and Charles Dey '52

I have enclosed a copy of the Granger Award nomination form; additional copies can be obtained through the Tucker Foundation or downloaded from our web site: www.dartmouth.edu/~tucker. Your nomination will assist us greatly, in our effort to recognize our alumni who embody Lester Granger’s commitment to public service. It is by highlighting the dedication of these individuals that we inspire the future generations of Dartmouth alumni. I would greatly appreciate your help in selecting our next recipient. Contact me if you have any questions.

In the spirit of service,
Dr.Stuart C. Lord
