DECEMBER 5 WEBCAST ADDRESSES UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION AT DARTMOUTHDartmouth College will hold a live, interactive Webcast on Monday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) focused on today's undergraduate experience at Dartmouth. The Webcast, Undergraduate Education: Why It's Different at Dartmouth, is designed to further dialogue between alumni and the College's senior leadership on the state of the academic experience and highlight the challenges and direction of today's liberal arts education. College Trustee Al Mulley will interview Dean of Faculty Carol Folt, who will also answer questions submitted by the online audience (via e-mail). Dartmouth Alumni Council President Rick Routhier will host the presentation. "Are the students getting what they expect-and need? What attracts faculty to Dartmouth, and what lures them away? Are teaching and research compatible? We'd like to give our alumni the chance to talk openly and frankly about these topics and help them learn more about the current undergraduate experience," said Routhier. "I believe strongly that Dartmouth is strengthened by the input and collaboration of its alumni. This Webcast is an ideal opportunity for alumni to get plugged in, and see how they can help further Dartmouth's goal of providing the best undergraduate education in the world." Folt will discuss a range of questions about staying true to traditional teaching values while creating new knowledge and fostering a culture of intellectual risk-taking. Her presentation will cover topics including: - How size and scale make education participatory, with students in partnership with leading scholars in their fields. Participants need to register online to view the Webcast, and can do so through a Web page found at http://webcast.dartmouth.edu/. That page leads to a registration page that will also be used for viewing the event and for submitting questions before, during, and after the event.
