Check out ChicagoWalt and Jane Daniels Since we can't fit the '65th into our schedule, I joined Jane on a business trip to Chicago for the Public Library Association meeting on March 7-8, 2003. We actually went out a day early and stayed the afternoon of the 8th. We then tacked on 5 days of skiing in Colorado and 3 days of snowshoeing before returning home. Jane was born in Chicago but left as a small child and my parents are from Chicago so I was also there a lot as a small child. Jane had been to the Field Museum frequently and I have been to the Science and Industry Museum on most trips thru Chicago. With the preannoucement of the birthday party in hand, we planned what to see this time. We did the Zoo on the first day and walked the Miracle mile on the way back to the Palmer House looking at a lot of architecture. While Jane was in meetings, I spent the day at the Field Museum which I didn't remember but almost certainly saw as a child. I spent the morning of the 8th at the library and then we both went to the Art Institute for the rest of the day. Besides the French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings we both enjoyed the ancient Chinese pottery. The older it was the more modern it looked. We skied one day each at Keystone, A-basin, Beaver Creek, Vail and Copper - pure sunny weather and great skiing. The big snows came the week after we left. We were staying at Keystone so we snowshoed for two days near Montezuma up the road a piece and one day met a friend who was at Steamboat and snowshoed up to the Rabbit Ears in Rabbit Ears Pass. |
