Feb. 28, 2008 Peter Robohm

Our classmate Peter Robohm, a lover of nature and especially Maine's north woods, died Feb. 28, 2008 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, of a cerebral hemorrhage suffered six days before.

Summing up his life style in our class publication, "More Musings," 40 years after graduation, Peter wrote, "I am at best a mediocre fly fisherman. But, mental and/or physical retreat to the wilderness has often kept my spirit from withering. Early in our years as a family, we adopted the remote reaches of (the) north woods as the one place where we could find ourselves again, individually and collectively..."

Civic-minded, Peter served in active retirement after 1998 in Bath, Maine, as chair of both the Bath Transportation Commission and the Gateway 1 Project to prevent urban sprawl in Maine and spearheaded the restoration of the historic Bath Railroad Station. He had a passion for trains, both real and model. He also worked in many charitable and other activities and was a fundraiser for our Dartmouth class.

He came to Dartmouth from Southold, N.Y. High School, belonged in Hanover to the Glee Club, the Outing Club and Alpha Chi Alpha, and after graduation earned a Master's Degree in electrical engineering at the Thayer School. He served three years as a Naval officer, specializing in computer science, then was employed 25 years by IBM, then for other firms, and ended his working career at the Robohm Management Group. During his IBM years, he was a supervisor of the town of Pound Ridge, N.Y.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sharon, their four daughters, Catherine, Amy, Jennifer and Sarah, and their husbands, four grandchildren, and three siblings. The family asked that donations be made in his memory to the Jackman, Maine Regional Health Center or the Heartwood Regional Theater Co. in Damariscotta, Maine.
