Photos at Dinner                                                                         Photos of Friends Meeting in Chicago

News notes as written by your classmates in Chicago

As is my practice, I sent around a legal pad during the Class Meeting and during the Saturday dinner for people to tell us news about themselves. Some of the comments are, of course, more revealing than others, and some didn’t write a word. The bracketed comments are mine – Bob Conn, class secretary

Dave Armstrong: "Living in Delray Beach practicing estate planning law. Small four attorney firm. Am engaged to Linda Green [who was present]. Youngest son Scott graduated Dartmouth in 1997, will graduate Thayer School in ‘98. Three other boys OK. No grandchildren yet.

Dave Cook and Nancy: "Living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Selling wholesale hardware supplies. Two great grandchildren, two married children in town with us, other in Iowa City, Iowa. Plan to wind down out of the rat race in the next 2-3 years."

Al "Biff" Olson
and Ginny: "Grandparents of prospective dual applicants: twins Peter and Nicholas, class of ‘15, via Todd Pellett ‘80 and Susan Olson Pellett ‘87."

Frank Ginn and Madge: "Parents of Peter (30), Tony, (27) and Sarah (26) – all kids have flown the coop. Frank is a human resources consultant for not-for-profit organizations in Chicago...Thoroughly enjoying my first Dartmouth reunion."

Alan Hale: Bellefontaine, Ohio. "Assistant Prosecutor for Logan County working as Juvenile Prosecutor and attorney for County Children’s Services. Nine-year-old son Victor keeps me active in school, cub scouts and plenty of camping and fishing. Very active cyclist. Daughter Thessaly lives in Bellingham, Washington and daughter Kare in college in Seattle. Chicago mini-reunion has been great!"

Bill Glenn: "Mardi, Cleve and I were pleased and had lots of fun hosting Dartmouth in Chicago. Home base is still Aurora, Ill. where I am still active in our commercial roofing and sheet metal company. Three adult children in the Chicago area and we have two "graddogs!" We are hoping to be more North and South so if you are near Door County Wis. or Sanibel, Fla, let us know. We would love to host ‘61s anytime. And most of all, thanks to Cleve and Mardi. Wah-hoo-wah."

John Edwards: "Still working as a radiologist but contemplating retirement. My golf game needs full-time work. Both daughters doing well. One, Lesley, is working in San Francisco for a small software company, and Elise is in Japan doing her field work for her Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Michigan. Cindy [who was present] has been recovering the past two years from myofascial pain syndrome [fibromyalgia]. We’re doing well and enjoying life."

Victor S. Rich: "Still living in New York and working in Manhattan. Co- manage a CPA and financial consulting firm, Edward Isaacs and Company, with over 200 people and two offices. Recently appointed to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) governing council for a three-year term, representing New York State. Also on the council is Andy Duboff ‘59. Annual round robin golf tournament is currently being finalized with Gerry Kaminsky, Larry Levy and Bob Rosier – first leg already completed. Looking forward to 50th birthday party in San Francisco, where my daughter Melissa ‘92 in moving to work for Intel." [Pat Warshaw was present.]

Art Johnson: Still living in Northwestern Connecticut and enjoying spending an increasing amount of time as a gentleman farmer. Will be looking forward to San Francisco in 1999 – and area I first got to know real well while at The Language School in Monterey – back in the Middle Ages!" [Ellen Rittman was there too.]

Roger and Sandy McArt: "Living in Weldon, Connecticut for the last 10 years. My small consulting firm of 15 professionals was acquired by Coopers & Lybrand in 1997 (75,000 people) and now is part of Price Waterhouse Coopers (140,000 people) – just a little change. Sandy is enjoying her interior decorating life – gets into many wonderful homes in Fairfield County. We’ve started spending more time, during the summer (and off season) on Martha’s Vineyard, where we recently bought a summer cottage. Let us know if you are near the Cape and come see us."

John and Ann Henry: "Just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary by returning to honeymoon destination, Sea Island, Ga. Two oldest children living and working in New York City. Looks like the need is arising for a Grandma’s Cottage in Connecticut if we are ever going to see our grandchildren. Our first grandchild is five months and one is due to arrive this December. The real estate development business in Oklahoma continues to be good to us and our work on Oklahoma educational issues demands thoughtful and inspirational effort. For pleasure, it’s the joy of the coming generation and our love of travel."

Charlie Brown and Inge: "This is our first mini-reunion and it has been great. Cleve Carney and Mardi Glenn did a wonderful job. We regret we missed the previous reunions."

Cleve Carney and Kay Schmitt: "It was very flattering and our honor to have great/best friends and classmates come to Chicago and "renew" and "redirect" relationships. I am very enthusiastic about our new class project to endow a fund for the Dartmouth arts community and endorse it 100%."

Tim and Nancy Grumbacher: "We only came because Cleve Carney (swim team) was the host and because Charlie Brown (swim team captain-- I do whatever he says ) called me five times. Honestly, this is the first Dartmouth reunion I’ve attended, ever (37 years) and it has been a wonderful, educational and eyeopening experience. Classmates I never said more than hi to in four years at Dartmouth have discussed our life’s challenges and where we think we want to go. Nancy has had the same positive discussion with women she’s never met before. This reunion is about 58-59 year olds discussing what life is all about."

Dick and Nelda Keith: "Still working but trying to figure out how to break away for two years of sailing."

Mike and Helene Murphy: "Chicago reunion was a must for us. We’d go anywhere to see a Robert Frost statue."

Art and Elaine Kelton: "We’ll follow the Murphys anywhere to see Robert Frost."

As permitted by our agreement with the sculptor, he had made additional castings, and one of those was on display in a major Chicago sculptor show on Navy Pier.]

Also present in Chicago were Oscar Arslanian, Bob Conn,, Duane and DeVona Cox, Denny Engelman, Bob Fuller and Karen Stansbury, Ivar and Carol Jozus, Bob Naegele, Phil and Maria Oehler, Lois and Pete Palin, Pete and Tricia Synnott.
