The quill has been passed; so have the gavel, abacus and other instruments for administering the class affairs. Many thanks to Tom Parkinson for five years of skillfully reporting class news. At the 35th Reunion in October, new officers were elected, including Steve Blecher (President), Ed Williams (Vice-President), Gus Buchtel (Secretary), Tom Good (Treasurer), Bob Paterson (continuing as Newsletter Editor), Sabin Danziger (Head Agent), Pete Luitwieler (Leadership), Fred Rothenberg (Bequests) and Bob Bartles (Projects). The new Executive Committee can be found by clicking on a link on our class home page: www.alum.dartmouth.org/classes/64. Chris Palmer and his "Team 64" were thanked for organizing the most successful 35th reunion in history. The class met or exceeded all its goals, and our seven-figure check to the College broke the record for a gift from a class of our vintage. Several sporting events at the reunion demonstrated that we're not yet over the hill. Over forty classmates entered into a golf tourney at the Queeche Club (across the river from Lebanon), organized by Bill Craig and his wife Susan. Sunday morning saw a small but hardy group of racers sprint from the Green, around Occom Pond and back to the Green, led by Ed William's son, Greg, followed (somewhat later, but within one minute of each other) by Bob Reidy, Gus Buchtel, Bob Dilg, Jerry Palm and Ed himself. A tennis tournament was held but apparently the competitive spirit was so high that Jerry Palm announced a unanimous tie for first place.

In the category of amazing decisions, Ed Gingras, of San Francisco, married Jennifer Imes in Portland in the days leading up to the reunion and they spent their honeymoon with us in Hanover - what kind of impression must that have made? Continuing his tradition of dedicated service to education, Stan Roman, College Trustee and former associate dean of Dartmouth Medical School, is temporarily interrupting his duties as dean of the School of Biomedical Education at the City University of New York to serve as interim president of CUNY while a search is underway.

Check out the our web page called "Transitions", which emerged from discussions at the Reunion on what to do with the second half of our lives ("retirement" didn't seem appropriate for the level of activity that was being discussed). An easy way to provide Bob and me with information for the Newsletter or this column is to use the "information for the secretary" web page (linked to our class home page).
