Class of '64 (November-December 2006 Issue)

Greetings from Hanover. October is a fun month to be in Hanover and we hope you can/did make it to Homecoming on October 14. Significant physical improvements have been made on campus including the gym - the Ivy Leagues' largest exercise facility -, the football field with its new "field turf", two new dorms, many new classrooms. Tom Parkinson extended an invitation to all classmates to stop by the Friends of Football tent located inside the Northeast corner of the stadium for those who made it back for Homecoming. I had an interesting note from John Fishel who with his wife Kim and six year old daughter, Karina, live on a five acre "gentleman's ranch" in Blanchard, Oklahoma. John will be teaching a course on Peace Operations this fall and on National Security Policy in the spring at the University of Oklahoma. In addition, he plans to write a " classically structured" textbook on International Relations. He will also be training to racewalk the Disney World Marathon and better his 2004 time from NY. John has recently retired from the Department of Defense as a teacher for 14 years at the National Defense University. Earlier he was a professor and Army reserve Officer. Of particular interest, he has written/co-authored and edited four books, the most recent being Uncomfortable Wars Revisited. Amazon has the book and those reviewing it give it 5 stars. Congratulations, John. Warner Knobe writes about experiences in community banking both in Colorado and New Jersey. In both states he has been a bank founder, two in Colorado, one in New Jersey in 1989 called The Bank of Gloucester. This bank is now part of the Fulton Financial Corporation of which Warner is President of the NJ division. In his spare time he does a broad variety of Christian ministry work involving evangelism and outreach to business and professional men "This is the most rewarding activity in that I bring the biblical message of hope and redemption to folks who are frequently searching for meaning and purpose in life." Warner and his wife, Diane, will soon celebrate 41 years of marriage, have two daughters and three grandchildren who all live within two hours in South Jersey. Steve Stein, our new head of leadership giving, is practicing general surgery full time at Yale New Haven and St. Raphael's hospitals, and is on the clinical faculty at Yale Medical School. He has three children - one about to start law school at U.Penn, another to start journalism at Columbia, and a third a senior in high school. Steve said that "it was an honor working for the campaign this year, with such dedicated people as Sabin [Danziger], Janet Rosa and others. There were a lot of frustrations - the 20 minute call for a $15 'leadership gift' but for the most part it was rewarding." Steve asks that you welcome those who make the fund raising calls since the volunteers do it because they love the college. Great work, Steve.
