Class of '64 (November-December 2008 Issue)

Our class has finally hit the "big leagues." Major League Baseball has approved Bill Neukom as controlling owner of the San Franciso Giants. Bill has been a member of the Giants' ownership since 1995and general partner since 2003. He takes over as CEO on October 1 We wish you the best, Bill, in what has to be (should I write it?) a hit or miss business. Speaking of hits, our class won the prestigious Dartmouth College Fund Committee Award for the Best All-Around Achievement for post 15th reunion classes. We had over 330 class donors and raised almost $700,000. Congratulations to all who contributed and particularly to the leadership of Sabin Danziger, Roy Lewicki, Al Woodberry, Steve Stein, and Pete Luitwieler. We have proven once again that the Class of 1964 is in a Class by Itself. Mike Moore who lives in the Boise area, has his own law firm, and is gradually getting out the door to spend more time at his other interests - traveling, enjoying the beautiful Northwest scenery, and getting a M.A. in American History. His thesis is on the Progressive Era in the Pacific Northwest. He and his wife Lynn, have two sons one of which just got married. Mike sees Park Price occasionally and has had contact with Tom Campion (lawyer in Sun Valley.) Among his friends at Dartmouth Mike would particularly like to make contact with Norm Haglund and Al Pierce. Thanks for the update. Bob Dilg, also a lawyer, with his practice in Orlando is increasingly spending time at his two passions, hiking and singing. On the hiking front, he works the Cascades 2 to 3 times a week out of his condo in Bellevue, Washington where their daughter, Lara '91 live with the two grandchildren. Bob does not do technical climbing, but finds substantial challenge in the 12 mile hikes he does. Bob did some climbing in New Zealand recently - Routeburn Trek and Tongariro Crossing. "The trip was spawned by my shock at turning 65 and a desire to recapture my lost youth. It somehow resulted in a reconciliation with growing older." Bob, I think you found something else besides your youth. On the singing front, he is a member of the Bach Festival Choir of Winter Park (near Rollins College) "which is perhaps the finest large choir in the Southeast other than Atlanta. " Sounds like things are humming with Bob. We were saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Jeff Shendell from Fred Rothenberg who helped with his obituary. He was a good man of Dartmouth. Our condolences to his wife Marsha and family. In closing, we are making plans for the 45th reunion. The dates are June 15 arrival and June 18 departure, 2009. Please see the web site for surveys/questions on what we should do. See you at Homecoming October 17,18, 2008. Hunt Whitacre, hrwhit@aol.com.
