Lawrence (Luke) Carpenter

LAWRENCE (LUKE) CARPENTER died suddenly on April 28, 2008 in Yuba City,
California. He came to Dartmouth from Penfield NY on a full Daniel Webster
Scholarship to study math with Kemeny. He left in February 1961 and in the late
60s he started a co-op commune outside Eugene Oregon, called Crow Farm. Thiswas
eventually sold to developers in the mid-70s and Luke and his wife Lottie moved
to a rebiold farm holding in Ithica NY where Luke began a second career as
special representative for lumber milling. That career and his spouse's nursing
practice took them back to the west coast in 1995. A memorial to his life was
held on August 16-17 at the Carpenter Family Cottage on Canadandaigua Lake NY.
