Class of '64 (September-October 2007 Issue)

As the saying goes, " As I was going to Sardinia . . ." Well, Lynne and I did go to Sardinia, Corsica and Roma on a Dartmouth sponsored tour in June. Our educational leader was Bart Thurber (with his wife Cheryl) Curator of European Art at the Hood museum who gave us great artistic insight. On the trip was fellow '64, Gary Foote, and his wife, Peggy. I think Gary copywrote all the jokes that include "foot" (except when used with 'the bill') so we did have a lot of fun. Gary retired two years ago from the marketing area of FERRERO Spa., one of the largest candy companies in the world. For some reason the Footes felt Colorado Springs and not New York City was best for fun things like hiking, spinning, volleyball, traveling, telling foot jokes as well as trying to learn golf. Gary said in commemorating the trip " we had a great Dartmouth group, including ( get this) a guy named 'Hunt-something' who travels with a babe named Lynne, and claims to be our Class Secretary!" Gary adds, "please stop at the 'Foote-Pad' when visiting the 'foot' hills of Colorado Springs." Talk about 'footloose.' Pete Luitwieler wrote that the Phi Delt '64's and their spouses traveled to Bermuda for 3-4 days for fun and story telling. Pete says they "had some great dinners, golf outings, beach walks, and some cricket instruction by the Bermuda Women's national team." Those making the trip were Chris Palmer (Suzanne), Fran Hanlon (Josie) Brad Evans (Barb), Mike Kolman ( Carolyn), Ehney Camp (Pat), Fritz Corrigan ( Glenda), Bill McGregor ( Carol), Larry Mitchell ( Cookie), Perry Butler (Jo), Bob Cahners ( Pam) and of course Pete with his wife Jane. Ehney Camp dropped me a line ( at my urging) to say he is retired, still living in Birmingham, Alabama, married to Pat for 40 years, having two children, and now two grandsons, Ehney V and John. Ehney has the pleasure of being an 8.1 handicap, is a member of Wade Hampton Golf Club in NC and recently played Augusta National with fellow '64's Perry Butler and Bob Freeman. He and Pat like cruising and plan a January trip through the Panama Canal and to the western coast of South America. Ehney invites other '64's to stop by Birmingham and play some golf. We learned recently that Herb Goodrich died of a heart attack. Writing for the Class, we extend our condolences to Ginger Goodrich and her children. Ned Miller has penned the obituary for Herb that appears in this issue. Ned was very close to Herb, lives near Stanford University, has a son from the class of '94, and sees Chuck Marsh from time to time. Thanks, Ned, for your contribution. Remember to put Homecoming on your calendar, October 19-20 in Hanover. A great time for the class to come together. Please let me know how you are spending your time and email me. Thanks.
