We know. We know!

And we are sorry. The mistake in the DAM story "Rising From the Ruins" (Nov/Dec 2009 issue) that refers to the Class of 1996 Lodge is regrettable and unforgivable. We've heard from you, we are aware of it, and we will let all readers know of it in our next issue.

66th Night Celebration: Sunday, March 7 2010

March 7, the 66th day of the year, is a Sunday in 2010. This is the second year we will celebrate "together" at the same time all around the Googled Earth.

You are invited to get together with other Classmates in your vicinity to eat, drink, attend a game or play, or whatever. You may be invited by someone else, or you may "show a little gear" and initiate the gathering yourself.

To find other Classmates near you, we have prepared a map of the earth with green pins for everyone in the Class. Look at the pin for your home, zoom out and see other pins come into view. Each identifies a '66 Classmate near you and gives contact information (whatever we have in the Class database). Give them a call or e-mail, pick a common location and mutual time, and get together on...

66th NIGHT

The more the merrier. Take a few pictures and send them with some personal news to 66th Night Coordinator Roger Brett. In fact, let him know what you are planning and he can tell you if another 66th Night (or Day, or Afternoon, or whatever) event is also being planned near you. Contact Roger at roger@casabrett.com or 510-339-6626.

To get started, download and install Google Earth (free) on your computer and then download the datafile, 66NightEarth.kmz that will display where we all have wandered to and from Hanover so many years ago.

It's a lot of fun just to play with the map, but it's even more fun to connect F2F with someone who you "did time" with at Dartmouth, especially if you haven't seen them in 44 years. Have a great time!

The report from last year's gala celebrations can be found at http://www.alum.dartmouth.org/classes/66/events/66th_night.php.

More about the Google Earth Map

The 2010 version of the Class of 1966 Google earth map (66NightEarth.kmz) is a file that works in conjunction with Google Earth. First, download the latest version of the Google Earth application.

Once you have installed Google Earth on your computer, you should then download the 66NightEarth.kmz file. (You will be requested to answer a simple login question about the last name of the man who was the College president when you matriculated in 1962.) When you have completed downloading the file, double-click on the 66NightEarth.kmz file icon. It will open the Google Earth application and create a globe with pushpins showing the home of nearly every living '66.

Here's an example of what you will see if you click on the pin marking the home of Class Newsletter Editor Bob Serenbetz.

It will take a few minutes for Google Earth to create and populate the globe. When is has finished, zoom into the pin that represents you, then slowly zoom out and notice which other pushpins come into view. Click on the pins, and you will find the address, phone, and e-mail (if we have them) for Classmates who are near you. If you live in a metropolitan area, zoom in close to make sure you are seeing all Classmates in your area. Use this information to contact and renew friendships with your classmates.

Note:Those of you who still have the 'yellow pin' markings from the 2009 map will want to 'uncheck' the 'Addresses' box in Google Earth's left panel and be sure the 'Class of 1966 on 2010' box IS checked.
