CLASS NOTES January/February 1979
Bill and Nancy Hobson hosted a foreign freshman last September between his arrival in the U.S. and his departure to Dartmouth. Haskins, five, Sarah, three, and Laura, two, all enjoyed the company of their new friend - a math whiz from New Dehli - and the Hobson's hope to keep in touch over vacations.
You can host a foreign freshman, too, thereby becoming an instant ambassador for both the U.S. and the Big Green. If interested, write the Admissions Office and tell 'em Bill Hobson recommends the program.
Robin Carpenter keeps strong college ties. Linda, his wife since last April 1, and 13-year-old daughter Meghan, live in Arlington, Mass., during the week, from whence Robin commutes to the Management Analysis Center, Cambridge-based management consultants, but they spend weekends in Norwich, Vt., from whence Robin ambles over to Lou's.
The only member of Chuck Sherman's Washington, D.C., household without a Ph.D. in psychology is Emily, but she's got a good excuse - she was just born on September 16. And right now she's loaded with natural talent. Chuck applies his training as a research project director at the Association of American Medical Colleges and Susan has resumed her work as a senior research associate at the National Academy of Sciences.
Forget that granite of New Hampshire business. Dan Murray is after more important stuff - like coal. No foolin'. Dan, as research associate and science coordinator for Boston College's Weston Observatory, is really a geologist evaluating, among other things, coal resources in southern New England. He, Ann, and Jessica, four, live on the pretty Wheaton College campus in Norton, Mass., where Ann teaches modern art history.
Don't let that Passumpsic, Vt., address fool you. Bob Morgan is in show business - bigtime show business. He's a costume designer who specializes in West Coast theater production, for A.C.T. in San Francisco, the Old Globe in San Diego, the Ahmanson Theater in L.A., Guthrie in Minneapolis, etc. Coming up are the costumes for a L.A. Music Center February production of A Man For All Seasons, starring Charlton Heston (a 46-long if I ever saw one). Wife Wendy Bradley stays more firmly planted as an attorney with Vermont Legal Aid in St. Johnsbury, Vt.
I love what Dr. Saleh Jaborin does. As a senior research scientist with Owens-Illinois in Toledo, he's working on plastic beverage bottles and, as a coke fiend, they're coming along just in time to prevent soft-drink elbow. Saleh, Dorothy, and their two children - Annissa, five, and Nadia, three - have recently moved to a new home in Holland, Ohio. He's also busy as building chairman for the Islamic Center of Toledo, which hopes to break ground on a new building next year.
As chief assistant to the special prosecutor for nursing homes, health and special services in New York, Ed Kuriansky is responsible for the daily supervision of over 500 attorneys, investigators, and auditors involved in the investigation and prosecution of "white collar" crime (the largest such statewide force in the nation). Ed's a nice guy, but watch out. I live in New York but have nothing to fear - I've switched to yellow shirts with blue stripes.
After serving two years in Baghdad, Al Keiswetter, a Foreign Service officer, was reassigned to the executive secretariat in the Department of State. His duties include traveling with the Secretary of State when he goes abroad and monitoring the flow of memoranda and other papers to the Secretary's office.
Bill Gibson has joined David Hough '67 in a Winston-Salem, N.C., law firm ...Al Keiller is an audit manager for Arthur Anderson & Co ...Stephen Ward has been named director of corporate development of Wallace Murray Corporation in New York.
Dean Spatz, president and chairman of Osmonics, Inc., has built the Excelsior, Minn., water and waste treatment equipment manufacturer into a $3-million concern listed over-thecounter. His equipment uses reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration.
Bill Ferris has been named Dartmouth Small Club President of the Year for his leadership of the Dartmouth Club of Springfield ...Dave Anderson is a vice president-banking in the New York office of Continental Illinois Bank. Dave junior was born in August.
Sorry about the fall picks. The Big Green football team didn't finish third, it won the Ivy title, but the soccer team did go to the NCAA playoffs.
Happy New Year to all. May 1979 be the best year yet.
