CLASS NOTES July-August 2007
Increasing giving back is high priority for many classmates going forward.
For instance in late April sic 66 classmates and spouses worked alongside nine Dartmouth undergraduates, two skilled craftsmen and the family that will occupy the dwelling on a Habitat for Humanity project in Lebanon, NH. Gary and Sharon Broughton, Stan and Judy Colla, Chuck Sherman and Margie Carpenter enjoyed the mini-mini-reunion, particularly the opportunity to chat with the current students during lunch.
Elsewhere – John Hargraves has completed a translation of Martin Geck's "Bach: Life and Work", published b y Harcourt Brace and deemed "impressive" by William F. Buckley Jr. in a New York Times book review . . . the informal Gamma Delta Chi "Sons of September" quartet of Bill Bryan, Geoff Huck, Mike Schaile and Ted Temple held their second annual informal retreat at the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania last September (naturally) and, good news, "all escaped unhurt". . . Lots of Dartmouth Green in Al and Jo Keiller's second grandson, Charles, born in September, to the Keiller's daughter Mary Beth '93, TU00 and David Bluestein TU00.
Retirement update – Doug Scarff now lives in Shrewsbury. MA after retiring 2006 from the SEC in New York in 2006 . . . . Marty Adler left the US Information Agency in 1998 and moved to Maui with his Brazilian wife, Helida, where they manage rental property and raise their two daughters, ages 11 and 13. Hector Motroni, riding in an open convertible, led the "Parade of Classes" during homecoming weekend last Fall, as recognition for winning one of the College's Distinguished Alumni Awards. Hector officially received the prestigious citation at the annual dinner of the Dartmouth Club of Fairfield County in December. He joins two
other 66ers – Bill Higgins and the late Fred Rosenblatt, to be honored for "long-standing and meritorious service to Dartmouth, with career achievement and community service as additional important dimensions." Hector was cited fot his long career at Xerox, his contributions to Thayer School, and his service on industry and academic boards of directors.
