Class of 1967 Dartmouth Alumni Magazine Column -- July/Aug 2009.
Sam Ostrow was honored with the Alumni Award for service to the College; well deserved. Thanks Sam for all you do! C. Mike Tucker wrote that Win Johnson was elected Treasurer of the Board of Dartmouth Partners in Community Service (DPCS). Our class has actively supported DPCS; Mike has been an integral part of the effort to get our students into community service internships. Phil Curtis of Atlanta was quoted in an ABC article on the value executive search firms can provide to hiring companies. Contact Phil if your group needs help finding qualified executive candidates. John Manaras reported on the annual Dartmouth Association of Alumni election process. The constitutional amendment is intended to simplify and improve the way in which alumni nominate College trustees. John has represented our class in the Alumni Council during this hotly debated issue; he offered to explain the options. Check out the web links for more dense descriptions of the various systems and possible faults. A discussion group at my church was exploring compassion. According to Buddhist psychologist Jack Kornfield, compassion is essential to good mental health. Small world to connect to a classmate. Jonathan Dana serves on the Board of Directors of System Ecologica, the Bosnian-based subsidiary of Better Energy Solutions Today, a US Bio-fuels Corporation. Jonathan has been a media entrepreneur since 1971. In the motion picture business, he is a pioneer in the field of independent film distribution. His early academic research on the psychology of pollution is considered a forerunner to the field of Behavioral Economics.
