CARNIVAIL 2010

This year's CarniVail is shaping up to be one of the best yet!  You're on your own to get there and find lodging.  I can advise you that the central booking number is: 1-888-605-7576 for lodging at Vail.  At that number, they MAY also have some travel deals.

Hopefully, we can get a good turnout from the Denver/Boulder area as we have a number of  '71's there.  Also, previous attendees such as Don O'Neill, Dave Merritt, Greg Fell, Pete Webster, George Rountree, and of course our local resident - Buck Allen are expected to appear again.  I'll be there with bells on!

The news from Steve Waters is here!  Please read the box below for whatever you need for CarniVail.

The Hyperlinks DO NOT work below; however, please feel free to copy and paste the info into your browser or email.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND.  I'D LIKE TO GET YOUR NAMES AND CELL NUMBERS SO WE CAN PLAN ON A MINI OF JUST THE '71'S.  EMAIL ME AT reunion71@hotmail.com

Hello Everyone,

This will be short (Wayne's note - I'd hate to see what "Long and Rambling" would be like.  However, I have to give Steve a big hand for putting all this together) and to the point.   It is now time to provide you with the details for reserving space at CarniVAIL-2010, Feb 26-28, in Vail, Colorado......

CarniVAIL is the only event that gathers together all members of the greater Dartmouth community (Dartmouth, Tuck, Thayer and Dartmouth Medical school alumni, staff, students and family)... Come one, come all and enjoy a renewal of the skiing spirit for all those associated with the one institution that has been the leader in the development of modern skiing....

As indicated in prior mailings, the event is scheduled for Feb 26, 27, 28 in Vail, Colorado.  You can now sign up by coping  this connection to go to the sign-up web site...   Go to http://guest.cvent.com/i.aspx?5S%2cM3%2c0a9b2e59-3c78-42c7-9e11-d44607b8330f

We prefer everyone to sign-up via our on-line web site, but the secondary option is to  send a check for the appropriate amount (making checks out to the "Dartmouth Club of Vail Region") to our Club Treasurer, Gerry Huttrer, Box 2425, Frisco, CO  80443.  Let Gerry know what you are sending to him via ghuttrer@colorado.net

If you have any questions or need help of any kind, please contact our super star event coordinator at Tuck, Melissa Locher....  Melissa.Locher@Dartmouth.EDU

As in past years, Vail Mountain will be welcoming us with Dartmouth's In Town Again! and  the program is chock-a-block full of events.  Not all the events are yet finalized. In one potentially exciting additional activity, we are working out details of a racing competition on Vail's Nastar Course against some other College and University groups who will also be partying at Vail the same weekend.

As all of you know by now, I am not only the leader of CarniVAIL, but also involved with creating what we hope will be an amazing book on ski history.  We are still busy with the wrap-up details that must be finished with in 6-10 days to prepare for printing Passion for Skiing  which will be must reading for anyone interested in the details of how Dartmouth has been the dominant force in the development of modern skiing.

As an additional comment on the book project, we will be holding a reception in the Hanover on February 12 (Winter Carnival Friday, Hanover Inn, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.) with Dartmouth Ski Team to premier Passion for Skiing, the history of skiing at Dartmouth College.  Mike Gonnerman '65 michael@gonnerman.com  is the event coordinator.  The Ski Team's current lead coach, Cami Thompson, numerous other alumni and the Hanover Inn staff are organizing the event.  This is a very appropriate venue because the Hanover Inn has received frequent comment in the book as a regular participant in the history of skiing, and is one of the book's corporate Underwriters.

The Friday Cocktail Party at CarniVAIL (Feb 26, Sonnenalp Hotel, 4:30 - 6:00 PM) will also be an event at which we will premier Passion for Skiing.  Everyone is invited to both gatherings...

Best regards from Vail,
Steve Waterhouse '65, T'67, President, Dartmouth Club of the Vail Region

For the DCVR Officers/Executive Committee of Gerry Huttrer '60, Alan Danson '60, Joe McHugh '60 T'61, Sara Jardis '93, Diane Boyer '78, Jane and Tom Healy '56, Jim Butterworth T'91, Stacey Sapp '93, Sarah '95 and Peter Millett DMS '95 , Steve Cheheyl '67, Alana Hanks '05, Richard Pomboy '60;  and for Co-Sponsors, The Tuck School

PS.  Become a  "CarniVAIL Underwriter": We have organized the CarniVAIL weekend with the an entry cost of $180 for all the group events so as many alumni as possible will be able to attend.  To pull this weekend off in this way, we need underwriting support from those able to do so.  As with last year, we are not going to "campaign," but rather just ask those with the wherewithal to help out to send a check (for any amount --$25, 100, 250, 500, 1000 or whatever you want to send--- made out to the "Dartmouth Club of the Vail Region")  to our Club Treasurer, Gerry Huttrer, Box 2425, Frisco, CO  80443.  We will really appreciate your extra support to sponsor something that is unique in the world of today.... a Dartmouth tradition for "all Dartmouth alums" ....... Dartmouth College, Amos Tuck School, Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth Medical School, all Dartmouth Graduate Programs!!!!
