As I compose this article, it is the middle of October here in New York and the leaves have begun to change color. I am sure you all remember the spectacular fall foliage in Hanover, and I understand that this year (due to the cool, wet summer) is one of the best in recent memory.
For those of you who have not logged into our class website (www.alum.dartmouth.org/classes/71/) there is an extensive report from our Class President, Pete Webster, on the Class of 1971 conference call which took place on September 13, 2004. Pete does a great job of summarizing the content of the conference call which included various class officers and representatives, and also included some information in regard to the upcoming 35th reunion. I strongly urge you all to log on and see what a great job is being done by our class representatives in keeping the Class of 1971 in the forefront.
In response to my plea for classmate information, Bob Cordy e-mailed that this past May he traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia, to a conference of Russian and American “business court” judges. It was his third trip to Russia in the past 2 years as part of an exchange program between New England judiciaries and the judiciaries of several regions in Russia. The purpose of the program is the implementation of Rule of Law principles in Russian jurisprudence and practice. In addition, Bob got to travel with his family to Hawaii for a vacation with his brother, Steve ’77, and his sister, Chris, and their families. Bob submitted an application to the Hawaii Supreme Court for which he was told there is a very long waiting list!
Roger Prince forwarded news from California that he is still working for Chevron/Texaco. After 2 ½ years in Bangkok, Thailand, and 2 years in Singapore, he was transferred back to company headquarters in February of this year. His area of responsibility is to improve the overall global reliability of the corporate computer systems and the services the corporation provides to their internal customers. Roger’s wife, Noelle, and daughter, Isabelle, stayed in Singapore while Roger was transferred back to the States so they spent almost six months apart. They are now all finally back at home in Danville, California.
Finally, congratulations to our own Ed Hanley, M.D., who has assumed the role of President of the American Orthopedic Association. In accepting the position, Ed stated that he looked forward to representing the AOA in its interactions with sister organizations around the world. He hopes to travel to the meeting of the combined orthopedic associations which will take place in Sydney, Australia, in October.
I urge you all to visit our class website, where we try to keep class news updated and some of the longer letters are printed in their entirety.
