Classnotes - October, 2003

Class of 1971 Dartmouth Alumni Magazine

I received and e-mail from Nels Armstrong who wanted to express a special thanks to classmate James Jenkins, who provided legal assistance and personal support to a grieving family in Atlanta, Georgia.  Jim took a call out of the blue from Nels, and he came through in a big way.

Nels also reports that C.J. Johnson now has a son and a daughter taking advantage of the Tuck School’s Summer Minority Business Executive Program.  Nels enjoys C.J.’s visits to campus along with the sweet potato pie that he brings with him.

Kim Krosue writes that, as a result of a note in the Class Notes last year, a mini-reunion of Scott Yeager, Simon Potter, I. David Reingold, and Kim took place early in August at Scott’s house in Burlington, Vermont.  Kim reports that Scott is a pediatric cardiologist in Burlington, Simon just finished a year-long stint as President of the Canadian Bar, and Dave is Chairman of the Chemistry Department at Juniata College who will be spending the next year on sabbatical in Zurich.

Steve White e-mailed that, as of August 1st of this year, he turned over the reins of his law firm in San Antonio, TX, to his younger partner.  He is dividing his time between his home in San Antonio and a beach house in Cozumel.  He tries to get up to Hanover at least once a year and he would love to see any classmates who may venture to Texas or Mexico.

Don O’Neill recently embarked on a ten-day, five city, Major League Baseball tour in August with his son, Donny.  They ventured from their home in Connecticut to games at Wrigley Field in Chicago, and went on to games in Denver, St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Philly.  Almost the entire trip was done by train with several overnight sleeping-car rides.  We will have to get a hot dog report from Don for the next Class Notes.  Next year’s West Coast tour is already on the drawing board!

In a recent Class Notes, we reported that Good Samaritan Jack Weber found a Dartmouth ’71 Class ring and was looking for its rightful owner.  I recently received a copy of a letter sent by classmate Sam Webster which recounts the saga of his lost Dartmouth Class ring.  Apparently, Sam had lost the ring in July 1995 while on a hike along the Appalachian Trail south of Williamstown, MA.  It was found that fall by the aforementioned Jack Weber, a “Ridge Runner” on the Trail.  He threw the ring into his backpack, forgot about it, and recently discovered it and made contact with the Dartmouth Alumni Office.  Sam is probably wearing his ’71 ring again and extends his gratitude to Jack Weber for making the effort to return the ring to its rightful owner.

Send me your news!
