NEW YORK AND SAN FRANCISCO DINNERS 2010

Here are the happy campers at the San Francisco dinner held at Il Fornaio.  The participants were: Albert and Janet Lemarre, Dick (Pres of San Fran D Club) and Ruth Wenzel, Gary Cook, Eric and Barbara Danoff, Willie Bogan, John Eaton, & Anthony Sandberg.  Two '72's also attended to round out the crew - Barry Abbott and Randy Shepard.  Looks like lots of fun and many bottles of wine.

Happily but sadly, the New York dinner held at Gallagher's was such a success, everyone got totally drunk and no one wanted their pictures in such a state to be placed on the web.  Attendees were: John and Martha Shanahan, Greg Fell, Pete Reugger, Dick Wooster, Janet Rosa, Bill Kennedy, Bob Moore, Mike Hannigan, Tony Fitzpatrick, John Colangelo, Tom McGuane, Jeff McElnea, Frank Watkins and Tom Price. Drinks only Kathy Duff-Rines..

LAKE KEOWEE, SC MINI FOR CLASS 60TH BIRTHDAY

Here's the group of: Peter and Marsha Pratt, Bill and Catherine Jacobson, Don and Donny O'Neill, Greg and Gail Fell, Wayne and Candace along with SC famous chef Shane White who personally cooked for us a 7 course dinner (cost $38 for the food but the bar bill drove things up a bit).  We had Steak Diane and Stuffed Lobster Tails.   Gail Fell enjoys the presentation.

We all had a great time and went touring around the Upstate SC area and saw the lakes.  Saturday evening we went to beautiful downtown Greenville for dinner at Soby's on Main.  Below is a picture of downtown Greenville at night with galleries, micro-brewery, and many different styles of restaurants.

THE BOSTON DINNER JANUARY, 2009

Ed. note: Do you notice the different tables?  Was this a "Moving Feast"?

Hi everyone,

We had a wonderful evening in the North End last Thursday. The food, beverage, and company were

delightful. The dinner was held at Lo Conte's Restaurant and we were honored by the presence of

Peter Chau '08. He was encouraged to discuss why he is back at Dartmouth as an intern. Peter

has a two-year internship with development to learn about fundraising.

We also were pleased to meet Andrew Hodgdon, David Dietz, and Jim Wood. Michael Fay,

Charlie Collier, Don O'Neill, and Michael Maynard joined us as well.

We look forward to seeing you all next year. Enjoy the attached pictures.

Best,

Janet

Class Officers Weekend

September, 2007

President Greg Fell led a group of your officers (Jeff McElnea, Mike Maynard, and yours truly) back to the campus for a very informative Class Officers Weekend (MOO! - the acronym is COW!).  Anyway, we broke down into work sessions for our respective offices with members of the other classes.  It's amazing how the retired bunch and the younger classes are way ahead of us in the middle as far as web presence is concerned.  If I had a WHOLE bunch more time and more programming experience, we could have more available here. Below are pictures from the event.  While there, I took some night pictures of the campus.  These are NOT copyrighted so feel free to click on them and download at your leisure.  If you want a higher resolution, please feel free to email me and I'll send them to you: wayne@horizonpointe.net. If any of you have some decent pictures you'd like to share, send them on and I'll put together a picture gallery page .

At table: Jeff, Gail Fell, Greg, Wayne, Candace Setzer          Jeff, Gail, Pres. Wright, Greg, Wayne, Mike                     (with Wayne), Mike

The third annual gathering of the San Francisco Bay Area '71's occurred simultaneously with the NYC gathering.  We met at Il Formaio restaurant.  Willis Newton and Sam Cuddeback coordinated the effort, and John Eaton Encouraged a good turnout from the East Bay.  Prior to sitting for dinner, we spoke with the Rene Pujol attendees, heard about CarniVail '07 (See Below), as well as the early plans for '08.  This group is growing and we expect a few Southern California classmates to join us next year.  Respectfully, Sam Cuddeback

71's Participate at CarniVail March 2-5, 2007

As our first shot at joining the merriment of CarniVail, the Class of '71 had a very good showing.  Before I get too far along, much thanks to Rod Morgan in Steamboat Springs who did a lot of the footwork to put this together but couldn't attend as his son got engaged that weekend.

Members of the class who participated were: Lon Gregg from Denver, George Rountree from Boulder, Don O'Neill from New Hartford, CT, Witt Fram from  Minneapolis , Peter Pratt with family from the DC area, Peter Webster with his entire male part of the family (including Bill '65) numbering at least 7 as far as I could tell, Buck Allen from Vail, Andy Harvard in an official duty discussed below, Alan Goodloe from the St. Louis area, Sam Webster with his entire family, and yours truly, Wayne Hobin, with girlfriend Candace Setzer.  We tried to get pictures of everyone but I didn't get any of Buck.  If anyone has pictures of him, please forward to me at Wayne@horizonpointe.net.

We had  our first meeting at the Vista Bahn for a group picture Friday morning.  It was cold and snowing with high winds.  Some of the group had skied the day before in a blizzard.  As you can see from the pictures, there weren't too many smiles that morning until we got on the nearly empty slopes.  We stayed on the lower runs (as Don O'Neill suggested from the previous day's experience) and skied pretty hard.

Lunch was at the Mid-Vail area at Sarge's shelter.  The '65's had centered this year's events around the Boys of Winter - a new book out by Charles Sanders.  They were the 10th Mountain Division in World War II with a lot of Dartmouth participation.  In fact, it is amazing how much "Dartmouth" there is in Vail.  Sarge showed up for lunch (one of the originals from the division and a major force behind the development of Vail).

The remainder of the afternoon was spent skiing.  Wild man Lon Gregg showed up and I hear he is a maniac on skis!  I didn't get to ski with him but those who did were impressed.  There was a 'tails party at the SonnenAlp Hotel for all Dartmouth and Tuck attendees Friday afternoon.  Most of us retired to the "Bully Pub" upstairs for an "American" (burgers, chicken, fries, etc) dinner.

Saturday was ski all day.  The sun came out and it warmed up nicely.  The best tactic was to ski immediately to the back bowls at 8:30 AM and then head against the traffic back to the front.  By noon, the front of the mountain had no lines while I hear it was up to one hour in the back bowls!

We had a presentation by Tuck about Alternative Energy that evening.  From there we had cocktails and a great dinner of either Salmon or Game.  Pete Webster gave me the following details of the after dinner ceremonies: Andy Harvard was there to present a plaque to two surviving family members of Jacob "Jake" Nunnemacher '42.  Jake was from Pine Lake , WI and his skiing was legendary.  His family produced beer barrels for the thriving beer industry in Milwaukee.  Jake married his school sweetheart Jean while he attended Dartmouth.  When the war came, he and other Dartmouth ski team members enlisted to serve in the Army's 10th Division.  That corps of troops was specially trained for mountain fighting and their skiing capabilities served them well. The fought their way their up through the Italian Alps.  Unfortunately, Jake never got to see his daughter since he gave his life in Italy.  There is a cabin on the Holt's Ledge side of the skiway and the plaque will be sited there.  Charles Sanders has written a book The Boys of Winter - Life and Death in the US Ski Troops During the Second World War.  He was there to present his book and having read it, it is an interesting and easy read.

On Sunday - we were "Dawn Busters".  They opened the mountain just for us hearty fools at 7:30AM.  We had the whole place to ourselves!  That was followed by brunch at the Game Creek club located on the mountain.  A Sno-Cat ride was provided from the top of the lift over.  As the legs were beginning to feel their age, the rest of the day was spent in leisurely skiing.

Enjoy the pictures below and we look forward to a great turnout next year.  We're beginning the planning already for more activities centered around the '71's.  Rod Morgan is working on reasonable room rates (under $300 per night).  If you have any interest in attending the 2008 festivities, please email Wayne SOON at Wayne@horizonpointe.net.  We'd like to get some idea of a head count so we can start making room arrangements over the summer.
