Dartmouth Alumni Council Statement:
About me: I am a graduate of Dartmouth College and Columbia Law School. I work part time out of my home as a patent attorney, though I wish it were
full time. It's not so easy being a mother, previously victim to the sandwich generation phenomenon, trying to return to work, especially in this economy. I'm divorced & have two sons: 17 and 20, a cat, a parrot, and an older home with deferred maintenance. I have done a stint as class
secretary in the past. I have done quite a bit of other volunteer work, in
my community, including several officer positions and I managed a
mini-nursing home in my mother's home during her final illness, including up to a dozen staffers from three different agencies -- and managed her
financial affairs. I am insanely obsessed with Josh Groban. Why do I want to be class rep? I have some concerns about Dartmouth:
- insufficient attention paid to conserving open space
- excessive building
- too many private bathrooms in dormitories -- when I think group bathrooms encourage socializing
- tuition/financial aid structure that penalizes frugal families who have
saved money and rewards those who are spendthrift
- tuition apparently increasing at something like twice the rate of inflation since I graduated in an attempt to squeeze more money out of those same frugal familiesI also want to network with other Dartmouth alums, who I've found to be the
best conversationalists on the planet -- due, I believe, to the lack of TV
on campus for many years. Maybe it would help my career or my love life,
but in any case it should be fun, I hope, because I love visiting New
Hampshire and especially Dartmouth.

Dartmouth Alumni Council Statement:
“Reconnecting.” That seems to be an apt theme, emphasized by Dave Graham as our incoming class president. Dartmouth, and my friends in the class of 1978, made an incredible difference in my life. I have always felt lucky to be part of a group of so many tremendous individuals.
I’ve been enjoying my own “reconnection” with Dartmouth over the past few years. Living at a bit of a distance since our graduation, I’ve managed to attend and enjoy all of our class reunions, along with Nancy and our two boys. Wonderful visits, they seemed primarily a connection to our treasured Dartmouth past. But working with our local alumni club, I’ve come to know and enjoy developing current relationships with some terrific fellow alums making connections with the greater Dartmouth community.
During our son’s college search last year, our family visited quite a few impressive schools. Seeing Dartmouth in that context, and meeting the current students, really demonstrated to us that the College remains the pinnacle of undergraduate institutions. The core traditions, the enthusiasm, and the devotion to Dartmouth, and to each other, continue today.
Many of us have been impressed with the energy and enthusiasm demonstrated by President Kim, and the direction in which he is moving the College. The current administration clearly values the relationship between Dartmouth and the alumni body. Since our graduation, many of our classmates have done amazing work for our class and in support of Dartmouth. As our Alumni Council class representative, I’ll pledge my time and energy to continue these efforts, enhance our connections with each other and the College, and help keep 1978 the Best Class Ever.Dartmouth Alumni Council Resume:
