The class of 1978 received a "2009 Special Recognition Award". The citation, visible and readable by clicking on the award below, reads:

The early years of coeducation were difficult at times, especially for the young women in the pioneering coed classes. Sensing a need to build commuity among the women of the Class, the '78s initiated several successful mini-reuions and programs. Notably, a private tour of an exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology, lead by curator Valerie Steel '78, attracted 30 alumnae. In addition, the class published a "Women of '78" newsletter that focused on women's events and contributions to Dartmouth. This generated not only interest and enthusiasm, but also signficantly increased alumnae giving to the Dartmouth College Fund. Nice job, '78!
