Homecoming Hanover:
We knocked ‘em dead at the parade from our position of honor in the front as Class of the Year. Phil Odence piloted our float, loaded with kids in the back.

Bill Mitchell was behind in his birthday BMW. Joining in also were Elenor Shannon Salem, John Currier, Liz (of course) Proctor Gray, Dave Costello…and that might have been it, though I can’t say for sure. Mark Lewis, Charlie Carr and Jeff Greene joined us at the corner of the Greene.

The tailgate was also a smashing success. Most of the above showed up for the pre-game, as well as Dave Van Wie and Dennis Hughes.

Post game, Guy and Phil ran into Cherie Holmes and Beth (I apologize for not remembering your last name).
Billy’s Bonfire:
The “virtual” Homecoming in D.C. was quite excellent. A clear crisp evening made a great showcase for Bill Conway’s bonfire. After adding a little “accelerant” (as Bill called it), the 20-foot high collection of branches and brush went up in flames, shooting sparks 150 to 200 feet into the sky. I managed to get a photo of the reflected splendor of the bonfire in the faces of the assembled 78’s, 79’s, 80’s, 85’s, and ‘86’s and families. Hope it turns out. The real bonfire certainly beat the small image from Hanover that would appear updated every 20 minutes on Bill’s computer screen. (Hanover needs a zoom lens on the DartCam.) We looked hard for Bill Mitchell, who Phil Odence had vouched would appear at top of the bonfire, but did not see any self-immolation going on.

The ‘78’s at the D.C. event included Dave Speer and Mark Hansen (a former roommate of Bill’s at Skunk Hollow in Hanover); 79’s included Roger Sullivan (works for Marriott Corp), Da’aga Hill Bowman (who seems to be showing interest in entrepreneurial activity following her husband’s retirement from the Army), Barbara Murphy (partner with law firm of Adduci, Mastriani & Schaumberg and head of the Dartmouth Lawyers Ass.), Josh Muskin and his family (Josh was headed off to Ethiopia the following morning for several weeks to get a first hand look at some of the work that his new employer (Word Learning) does there, Rich Conn (a partner with Latham & Watkins who, despite the current international financial crisis, seemed somewhat nostalgic about his years spent in Russia on Latham’s behalf), Bill Conway (and his mother in law, who no doubt was convinced by Bill’s wife, Diana, in her absence regulate the availability of hot cider and rum), T. Weymouth (who was overheard waxing poetically to the ‘85’s and ‘86’s about the good old days in Hanover), Gordon Daisley (seen scrounging at the end of the night for Dartmouth memorabilia to take back to his kids), Doreen McMahon Arnold, and myself, know to Conway’s son as “Burn” Gray . The 80’s included Trina Olin plus husband Art and kids, Mike Wall (VP for Information Services with Quality Oncology, Inc.) and his family, Elizabeth Gray and her two lovely daughters (who incidentally are all related to me), and a couple others. Everyone got a Dartmouth memento, a good time was had by all, and I think that most of us forgot that there was a football game to be played the next day.
