October 2002

Happy New Year! It’s funny to see that in print because I am writing this column in October. Keith Noyes sent an email from Hong Kong, where he has been living for ten years. "As for me, you could call it a premature mid-life crisis or just deciding to follow a passion, but I left the investment banking business last year after slogging away for ten years in order to work full time in my own company which organizes adventure races and mountain marathons in Asia. So far I have organized two televised adventure races and have another one coming up in September in Yangshuo, China for which The North Face is the title sponsor." Those wanting details can check out Keith’s Web site www.seyonasia.com." Keith also came in 5th place in a 100 km trail running race in Outer Mongolia. Debbie Weitzman has been living in San Juan, Puerto Rico for 10 years. Her son, Marco, is 3 years old and is in that beautiful age of discovery and non-stop talking─in both fluent English & Spanish. Her daughter, Sarah, is 2 and is already the boss of the house, although right now she speaks some type of Greek/Chinese instead of the accepted 2 languages in the house! Debbie manages the Ethicon Endo-surgery division of J&J in the Caribbean & Central America region. Her husband, Bertie Cabre, is developing his own business, so their roots in Puerto Rico are getting longer & longer. Bill Marozas married Jennifer on May 18th at the Viansa Winery in Sonoma County, California. They met four years ago while running an "Envirosports" half marathon in the mountains west of Palo Alto, California. (Those of you who know Bill, please contain your laughter. And yes, he did finish the race!) Fellow ‘86s standing up for the groom included Phil Tombaugh and Jonathan Paul. In attendance were Tim Casey, Sam and Leslie Zales, Billy and Susie Law Hizar, Mike and Bonnie Kramer Tonneson, Peter & Laura Ramsden, Phil & Jennifer Tombaugh, Jonathan and Jennifer Culliton Paul, Greg & Kelly Lesko, Craig & Kelly Peterson Saltzgaber, Chan & Edie Morgan, Diarmuid and Stephanie O’Connell, Mark & Jennifer Lamarre, Tom and Lynne Stephens, John & Lisa Brady, A.J. Conley (lovely wife Amy celebrated a much deserved free weekend back in Darien, CT), Matt Landa, Jennifer Mcllvane, and Bob & Dolly Rech. Many of the characters listed above, including Bill, gathered (again) in August for the annual Clam Bake Rage at the Saltzgaber estate in Connecticut to renew friendships, debate foreign policy and break out the pong table. Len & Jackie Fontes, and Matthew & Christina Burke joined in the fray. Larry Patton blew off the wedding weekend but did make it to the big party. Catherine Kelley chose to decline the invitation, in favor of attending another Camille Paglia book signing. Bob Rech took home the ‘Most Lobster Eaten’ title (third year running) by inhaling four lobsters over the course of one hour. There has also been a Raleigh Floyd sighting. He and lovely wife, Allison, are still in Lombard, Illinois (suburb of Chicago). Raleigh is getting an on-the-fly MBA while running his family's training and seminar business. He works from home and travels twice a month to lead the business development effort. His claim to fame so far is that he succeeded in arranging a large seminar in Bermuda this past December, only to have four participants end up in the local jail between training sessions. "No comment" was the response when asked about the charges… In his spare time, Raleigh plays chauffeur to his six-year old ballet/painter prodigy Daria. Allegedly, Raleigh is also learning to golf and has suddenly developed a keen interest in cooking and woodworking. Note to EPA – check water supply west of Chicago for mind-altering substances.
