2009 Special Recognition Award - Class officers launched creative practices throughout the year including our first electronic newsletter, online dues payments, 87th night of the year mini reunions, and a communications plan - all with the goal of supporting our 25th reunion!
2009 Class President of the Year Award (25 Years Out and Younger) - H. Randall Morgan ‘87
You have been known as “H” since your student days. We can guess what that H stands for - honest, hardworking, hale and hearty - however, fellow members of the Class of 1987 would most likely say you are heaven-sent, because of all you do on their behalf.
You are goal oriented, for both the near and long term, and you keep your class officers
intently focused on taking action to achieve those goals. This year, your accomplishments were many: You established online class dues payments, and saw class dues participation increase 20 percent, with the total amount collected doubling from the previous year. You appointed a new co-webmaster, who helped you make the class Web site more up-to-date. And you awarded the first Class of 1987 Scholarship.
You also created a comprehensive communications plan to identify your class’s priority
messages and deploy all available media - newsletters, the Web site, class notes, quarterly emails, dues letters, and mass emails – to reinforce those messages. The main message of the Class of 1987 is, of course, to build excitement and attendance for your 25th Reunion, three years from now. You also worked with your fundraising team to devise a strategic plan, laying the groundwork for a strong Reunion giving effort for the 25th.
Above all, you instilled in your officer corps a spirit of teamwork and, to use your words, “looking out for each other.” This is the key, you say, “to making our initiatives add value to the lives of our officers, one of whom wrote, “H should be very proud of the leadership he has been providing as class president. I highly respect his willingness to lead our class as we work towards our 25th Reunion. He has been instrumental in getting the class more organized and helping us to stay on task, follow through with our commitments, and work together as a team.”
And now we think Webster’s would forgive us if we say that “H” stands for “action.” To
thank you, H, for all you have done and inspired others to do, we are pleased beyond measure to present you with the 2009 Class President of the Year Award, 25 Years Out and Younger.
