Class Notes - June 2000

One year out and all is well. Time flies, doesn’t it? Crazy.

Danica Lo is currently working at the American University in Cairo, Egypt with Kelsey Bostwick, Elizabeth Magner ’98, and Beth Turk ’98. Last month, Danica wrote in with a quick update on what is happening overseas: "Elizabeth and I are roadtripping through Jordan next week, driving south from Amman and eventually hiking through the desert in Petra and Wadi Musa. We’re all spending spring break in Beirut, known as the ‘Paris of the Middle East’ in these parts." Danica promised to blitz us some good stories when she gets back if she doesn’t get stuck at the top of a mountain in Jordan.

It had been a while since I had talked to Victoria Dahir when a blitz randomly popped up on my screen at work to report, in her words, a "major life event." She has decided to leave the gorgeous sun of Tampa and the pong table of Doug Lee and Dan Donahue to head back home to San Francisco. She is joining a small software firm called Blue Martini to build their training department. She’s pretty excited to be going home, but not too excited to leave roommate Melissa Nagare back in the heat. Fear not, their upcoming trip to New Zealand with Doug will make up for lost time.

On the law school front, Jen Parkinson will be working at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. this summer for the Office of Policy Development. She’ll be part of a task force focused on reinforcing the justice system in the District which — take my word for it — definitely needs restructuring. Karen Yen and Carlos Gonzalez are focusing on the more important aspects of law school at Georgetown. They have introduced pong ("the real kind with paddles and everything") to all their law school friends. According to Karen, "It’s become a regular activity here. They love it. I feel like we should get some kind of award for spreading the Dartmouth ways." Well, Karen, no award, just the warm feeling inside that you have worked to make the world a better place.

Congratulations go out to Claire Riley who ran her first 10K race with Elizabeth Davis in Bethesda, MD. Claire, in between Tuesday night bridge sessions with Elizabeth’s parents, plans to compete in more races this summer, too.

That’s it for this month. Sorry to cut it short, but the MCATs are looming and there is much work to be done. Plus, the class notes folder in my blitz account is getting quite anemic so make sure to send in your news.

See you next month.
