Class Notes - March/April 2009

Hello 99s! Many of us have found ourselves swamped in record snowfalls this winter but spring is nearly here. In the meantime, we have lots of news to share.

First, those of you with free time in New York might want to stop by the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel, where Marc Bruni is directing the highly acclaimed off-Broadway musical Glimpses of the Moon. Based on the Jazz Age novel by Edith Wharton, this rich musical recounts the tale of two young friends whose plot to help each other marry Manhattan millionaires is foiled when they themselves fall in love. Marc has firmly established himself on the Broadway stage, directing more than 12 productions and winning the New York Musical Theatre Festival Directing Award for his production of Such Good Friends.

In other news, Laura Poplawski writes that she and Ryan Ma (Brown '97) were married last summer over the Fourth of July weekend. Dartmouth was so well represented at their nuptials that the newlyweds managed to sneak in a rendition of the Salty Dog at their reception. Several '99s were in attendance, including Ben Hill, Deric Corwin, Anthony Accurso, Bill Hwang, Pat DeLeon, Karen Menuz, Rosalind (Prabharasuth) Douglas, Jean Blackerby, Margot Neebe, Charlotte Bednar, Jessica (Jacob) Flick, Ayesha Johnson, Dan Epstein, Scotty McConnaughey, Sally (Dickinson) DeLeon, Rob Winn, Erin Moodie, Alex Ghesquiere, Anna (Miller) Hill and Dan Sheldon. Laura and Ryan now live in Somerset, Massachusetts, where Laura is completing her Ph.D. in theoretical computer science at Northeastern.

Carolyn Wachsman Stone also had wedding news to report. She writes that Polina Globerman and Stu Revness were married in a beautiful ceremony overlooking the ocean in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The happy couple are now living in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.

Holly Smith Munsie proudly writes that she and her husband, Jeff Munsie, recently welcomed a new addition to their family. Tyler Barrett Munsie was born on July 1, weighing in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches tall. Holly adds that "we're having a lot of fun with him and he's even made one trip to Dartmouth already for Homecoming this fall." His Dartmouth ties are strengthened by his regular playdates with Kelly and Evan Walsh's son Owen, who was born just 11 days after Tyler.

Finally, the Boston Bar Association recently announced that Laurie Carafone was one of 15 new members of its prestigious public interest leadership program. The leadership program, which welcomes lawyers who have practiced law for less than 10 years, fosters strong professional relationships to ensure participants' success. Laura attended the University of Michigan Law School after graduating from Dartmouth and is an attorney at Dwyer & Collora in Boston.

That's all the news for now. I hope you are all enjoying these snow-filled winter days and look forward to sharing more news with you soon!
