Class Notes - May 2001

It seems that things are pretty crazy up in Hanover lately. The locking of dorm doors, more issues of racism and sexism, and the tragic deaths of two of Dartmouth’s most distinguished professors–all require our careful attention. I would encourage everyone to play an active role in crafting the future direction of the College. Call the alumni office, write an editorial to the D, or get involved in your local Dartmouth club. Just stay involved. On to the news…

Catherine Maxson is currently working for Boston University Medical School in the development office and plans to start law school at Boston College in August. She wrote to tell me that she often runs into Beth Knowlton, who also works at BU, and Nicole Namour, who is pursuing her masters degree at the BU School of Public Health. Catherine, along with Sara Zrike and Jeff Munsie, also traveled up to Hanover for Winter Carnival. Sara is currently getting her masters in education at Tufts and is student teaching at a bilingual school in Boston. Jeff is in his second year at Harvard Law School. The three met up with Dave Wagner and Justin Evans to have lunch at the new ski lodge, which she said was "beautiful [and] much bigger than the old lodge, but it still has an intimate and rustic feel to it." Catherine also met up with Kerry Bystrom, James Gallo, Sean Taylor, Graham Gunst, Landis Fryer, and Michelle Sweetser at the long-awaited ’99 Executive Committee meeting.

Nancy Bloomfield and Danra Kazenski are still living and working in the Upper Valley for a great non-profit home repair program that had its roots in the Tucker Foundation. They run the Corps of Volunteers Effecting Repair (COVER) home repair program in Lebanon, which works with low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners to repair/build roofs, construct wheelchair ramps, install installation, etc. Check out the program at www.coverhomerepair.org.

Tony Orden, Ed Lalanne, John Muckle, Marc Conte ’00, and Sarah Winzelberg ’02, got away for a few days on Presidents’ Weekend and headed up to Stratton, VT, for some fun in the snow. A good time was had by all. Tony spent most of his time on the slopes falling down as a novice snowboarder, while the others–according to Muckle–displayed much more skill and agility. Better luck next time, Roy.

Erin Clarke and Ed Troya ’97 were married on July 15 in Mystic, CT, and reportedly had quite a crowd from Dartmouth, including wedding party members Arielle Davis, Jane DeWitt, Nishad Chande ’97, Mike Armstrong ’97, Roberto Taboada ’97, Gen Singh ’97, and Chad Northrup ’96.

Lots of alums traveled to Los Angeles in January to celebrate Alli Brugg’s recent engagement to Ben Bawden, hosted by social coordinators Laura Heinechen, Carrie Bourdon, and Jenn Blankenship. Alli writes, "If ‘Mike’ and ‘Mark’ had only known they’d have to deal with the four of us, plus Courtney Derman, Claire Goldstein, Megan Hjermstad, Jen Keller, Meghan Lynch, Michelle Park, Kaitlin Reidy, Claire Riley, Elizabeth Serill, and Sam Sommers, they would have stayed home! I’ll never think of baseball the same way again!"

Also in wedding news, Amy Stone was married to Jay Altizer T’00 on March 3. Bridesmaids in the Texas wedding were Jennifer Kaye, Adrienne Wilson, and Andrea Stenger. Also attending were Leigh Eisenman, Jennifer Blankenship, Kevin Demoff, David Wagner, Laura Heinechen (she’s been busy), Robert Tichio, and Lou Moore ’98.

No more room this month! Keep sending your news and I promise to get it in when I can. Cheers.
