Class Notes - May/June 2009

Hello '99s! Spring is well under way and I hope you've all had a chance to make the most of the brighter days and warmer weather. This June it will be 10 years since we left Dartmouth as a class at Commencement. Even now it's hard to believe so much time has passed since that fateful sunny day on the Green.

Jeff Fine invites those wanting to reminisce and see old friends to one of several mini-reunions that will be held over the May Day Weekend (May 2-3) in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington, D.C. You can find more information on the class Web site.

Josephine Nicholson writes that she and husband Ben '00 moved last June to Cleveland, Ohio, where Ben is doing an ophthalmology residency. Josephine, meanwhile, is kept busy doing part-time software development work from home and looking after 1-year-old Chloe. Josephine adds that Chloe "likes to 'help' me out and she's looking forward to her baby brother or sister in May!"

Two of our classmates have also made the news. First, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports on a lecture in February by Melissa Draper, who co-authored the book Dignity and Defiance: Stories from Bolivia's Challenge to Globalization. Melissa's contribution focused on the effects of globalization on women's social movements, building on her extensive experience in the region made possible, in part, by support from Dartmouth.

Kevin Demoff has also made the news, taking over as chief negotiator for the St Louis Rams in January. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that in his new role Kevin "will handle all player contract negotiations and serve as liaison to ownership on football and business operations." Kevin has extensive experience in football, taking management roles at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Avengers. Congratulations, Kevin, and good luck!

Finally, in keeping with the times, Rex Morey reports that the class now has a group page on Facebook. Through the "Dartmouth College Class of 1999" group you can find the latest on class news and events as well as find long-lost classmates through their own Facebook pages. So far more than 125 of us have joined the page so far and you're invited to do the same!

That's all the news for now. I hope you are having a great spring and I look forward to sharing news with you again soon!
