Class Notes - November 2002

In July, a group of '99s gathered in Chicago to celebrate Tom Reynolds’s upcoming wedding to hometown sweetheart Emily Dern. In attendance were Chris Sullivan, Todd Becker, Gary Stern, Will Leicht, Billy Wynne, Jay Tatum, Eben Darling, Jon Heaton, Charles Smacintosh, Mike Henry '98, Jamie Lust '97, and Bill Dreikoff '97. Friday night started at the best man's, Mike Sullivan from Chicago, apartment. Chris Sullivan writes, "As the group waited for the out-of-town guests to arrive, wheel barrel races were held, happy meals were enjoyed, and the kitty was fed multiple times. Saturday began early with a softball game on the shores of Lake Michigan, followed by an afternoon trip to Wrigley Field for a Cubs-Marlins game. It was a perfect day for the bleachers of Wrigley as it was a sunny 85 degrees the Cubs actually won! Saturday night was another long night out on the town that ended in a food fight at a late night Mexican eatery. It is safe to say that the residents of Chicago will enjoy a short reprieve until a larger group of '99s is assembled for the wedding in September."

After three years working in southern California, Jason Dadakis moved to Tucson to begin a masters program in hydrology and water resources at the University of Arizona. Jason quit his job early to give his full attention to the World Cup at a variety of L.A. viewing establishments and then to backpack around western Europe with his girlfriend, Katey Ritrovato '98. While in London the couple enjoyed the hospitality of Stu Davidson '98 and met up with an in-transit Matt Wilshire '96. Katey joined Jason in Tucson and is pursuing her MBA at the Eller School after spending four years in the film industry.

Bennett Arble, who is starting vet school at the University of Wisconsin, wrote in with a long update: "I’m writing this from Caroline Kaufmann's apartment. She’s living in Chicago with Kathleen Eibl ’98, and started a masters program in computer science this summer. Also earlier this summer, I went up to graduation with Amy Antman, Anne Loomis, Jess Jacob, and Carrie Kaplan. Amy just finished her first year at Harvard med and is biking around Ireland with her boyfriend. Anne is working in computers in New York and doing some creative writing on the side. Jess finished her masters in education from Harvard a year ago and is now teaching high school math in Boston, where she lives with Ben Hill, Margot Neebe, Deric Corwin, and Laura Poplawski."

After traveling through Central America with her sister, Karen Menuz is starting her second year in the neuroscience PhD program at UCSF. Bill Hwang is in the biochemistry PhD program as UCSF as well. After two years working at a homeless shelter for youth runaways in San Francisco, Patrick DeLeon, has returned to school to get a masters degree in social welfare at UC Berkeley. He plans to continue working with adolescents upon graduation-either in a drug treatment, mental health, or criminal justice setting.

In late June, a bunch of folks flew out to Seattle for the wedding of Susan Schnier and Greg Hoon. Those who rocked the vodka ice sculpture chute included Hilary Kopple , Julia Marx, Rachel Moss, Melanie Watts, Will Martinez, Adam Stoller, Josh Zemel, and Lindsay MacIndoe '01.

Thanks to those of you who wrote in with updates; I still have a bunch to get in the next issue. For those with news, note the new address below. Cheers.
