Class Notes - September 2000

Two weeks ago I found myself gazing through my cubicle window onto the picturesque underbelly of the D.C. Whitehurst Parkway thinking, "Gee, another month with nothing to write about." Well, someone with a penchant for weddings must have picked up on this notion because a day later I was swamped with engagement announcements. At last count, seven more of our classmates have made the decision to tie the knot; some even will have done so by the time this column is published. Make sure you get in touch with all of them to wish them good luck or at least stop by the receptions for some free food.

Alli Brugg and Ben Bawden surprised friends just a couple of weeks ago with news of their engagement on June 10. Ben’s roommates Chris Warren and Tom Adair wholeheartedly deny being caught unaware. "We started to suspect something was up when Ben started wearing a Tiffany’s diamond around the house all the time, but neither of us really wanted to ask. Then, when it happened…well, lets just say it was a relief for everyone involved." The couple plans a September 2001 wedding in Hanover, but is still deciding between Rollins Chapel and Chi Gamma Epsilon for the actual ceremony.

And, now for the next one: Emily Csatari writes, "I’m not sure if you knew, but Randall Poulin ’98 (yes, Party Bob) and I were engaged last March (1999) and I moved out to Oklahoma where he is stationed. He graduated ROTC and has an active duty service obligation. I’ve been working here at an employment agency and we have a great dog we got in November: Murphy. We love him, and we had to go for a Dartmouth name! The big news, though, is we were approved to get out of the Army early! We are moving to Rhode Island where Bob will fulfill the rest of his National Guard obligation. We’re excited to be back on the East Coast so soon, and right before our wedding which is over Labor Day weekend. It’s the four-year anniversary of our dating; we’re really thrilled!"

Emily also mentioned that Michelle Glander is getting married July 1 in Massachusetts to her high-school sweetheart.

While you may think that you are safe once you leave Hanover, you should know that if your name so much as appears in print anywhere in the world, Dartmouth will know about it. Stephanie Little, a first-year law student at Yale, married James Brennan ’98, a first-year medical student at the University of Mississippi, on May 28 in her hometown of Hastings, Nebraska. Shortly after hearing that news, I got word that Erik Berg, who is teaching science at Chatham High School, recently became engaged to his own high-school sweetheart, Amy Strozina; a July wedding is planned.

Finally, Adrienne Wilson sends her congratulations to the "blushing bride-to be," Amy Stone. Jay Altizer (Tuck ’00) proposed to Amy the first week of April in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. They are setting a date for early 2001.

Congratulations to ALL of the happy couples. We are expecting to hear many more details than can be crammed into 600 words!

Coming up next time in What ‘99s Do When They’re Not Getting Married: The rompings of Jason Alderman in Beijing, Jen Collins on the slopes, John Fowler in Alaska, the Dartmouth Glee Club, and more! In the meantime, check out the class website at http://happy.dartmouth.org/classes/99. Cheers.
