Class Notes - September 1999

Greetings, fellow '99s! Just when you were beginning to get over the shock of receiving the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine for the first time in your Hinman box, here is the first '99 edition of Class Notes. Granted, it hasn't been that long since we crossed the stage on the College Green to receive that $120,000 piece of paper, but certainly the lack of time passing hasn't kept the '99s from getting busy in the "real world."

I recently talked to James Gallo, our esteemed Senior Executive Committee president, who - for lack of doing anything exciting himself during the summer - mentioned that Catherine Maxson and Debbie Bender headed overseas for a little while before testing the waters of employment. They traveled to Israel and the Middle East to escape the burdens of taxes, rent, and bills, if only for a little while. Also leaving the comforts of the US was Ed Lalanne, who plans on sailing around the world for the next year with his parents. Ed, a master sailor while at the Big Green, plans on joining the corporate world when he returns. Of course, those knowing Ed don't rule out the possibility that he will choose to retire to a secluded island somewhere in the Pacific, entertaining the natives while teaching them to play lob. Christopher Rea also chose to traverse the waters this summer at the Henley Royal Regatta in England. Following a little action on the Thames and a few pints in the pubs, Chris was off to Italy to spend some time with his family before returning to the states.

On the homefront, outdoor superstud Brett Golden continues to live his glory days, working up at Moosilauke and moonlighting with Amanda Eaken as a fashion consultant for DOC Trips. Other '99s haven't been quite so lucky and have been forced to leave the Hanover Plain. L. Schuyler Hedstrom is getting ready to head to Missoula, Montana where he will be an actor/director for a travelling childrens theater ensemble. J. Carl Cecere Jr. also plans to head out west to become a ski bum in Park City, Utah. He does concede, however, that reality might hit sometime soon, and a position as a legal assistant in Paterson, New Jersey also remains a possibility. At press time, Matthew Stembridge was also getting ready to start as a grassroots organizer for Green Corps doing environmental campaigning and advocacy work.

Though some (including myself) still might be having trouble dealing with the fact that we have graduated, others are moving on to the next milestone in life: marriage. Alisa Antkowiak and Christopher Adamson '97 tied the knot in August. When everything finally settles down, Alisa plans to become a counselor or therapist in a psychology clinic. Congratulations! That's about it for now. Rumors of more engagements, marriages, and escapades are abound, and will make their way to this page in months to come. Send me your news, gossip, announcements, and hazy recollections of nights on the town with fellow Dartmouth alums. It's always great to hear from you. Also, don't forget to register for the Dartmouth Alumni Network if you haven't done so already. Instructions can be found at Vox Alumni Network.

Cheers.
