Class of 1999 Tucker Foundation Fellowship: 2007

The Class of 1999 Tucker Fellow for 2007 is Nana Ampadu '09

Nana received both the highest number of #1 rankings and the highest score overall. I have attached a PDF of the results for you to review.

Nana Ampadu '09 will work with the Manye Foundation in Kpone, Ghana (http://www.manyefoundation.org/). Nana is an experienced teacher who will be working full-time with local students on their core subjects--math, science, and writing. Nana has intimate ties both to Ghana, and to the opportunities that are denied to individuals with a limited education. Both of her parents grew up in Ghana. While her mother was able to graduate from community college and train to become a registered nurse in the U.S., her father's education ended before middle school so he was denied many opportunities in the U.S. Nana has been instilled with the deep value of continuing education and making the most out of every opportunity, while helping others along the way. Nana has led math study groups at Dartmouth and is respected for her flexibility and her patience in the classroom. Nana will bring these skills to Kpone, in addition to being fluent in Twi, a tonal language spoken by roughly one third of Ghanians. "I hope that I can help the students enjoy learning and appreciate the impact of a having an education on their lives. I hope to help them read and write so that illiteracy will never confine them."
