The Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston

General Events

DCGB Board Meetings: The Board generally meets on the second Tuesday of every month (except July) in order to plan events and manage the affairs of the Club. Meetings are open to all Members. Even if you cannot attend a meeting, the Board would appreciate hearing your ideas and suggestions (and complaints) which you may share with any Director (you may contact Executive Committee members here)

Alumni/ae Interviewing: Volunteers are needed to interview seniors as well as represent Dartmouth at local college fairs. Interested alums should contact Andrea Lordan D'86.

T-Shirt Delivery: Share your Dartmouth experience with newly admitted students and their parents. Club members deliver Dartmouth T-Shirts to accepted applicants in December shortly after early-decision notifications are sent and again in April shortly after regular-decision notifications are sent. Please contact Andrew Horne D'87 for more information. It is important to re-register as a volunteer each year. Volunteers may find additional information here.

Dartmouth Book Awards: Each year the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston provides Book Awards for deserving high school juniors. Our Club's Book Award program serves over 120 secondary schools and is the largest in the nation. There is a great need for volunteers to interact with the schools in Winchester, Bedford, Melrose, Billerica, Methuen, and Lowell. Alumni who would enjoy speaking with local school administrators about the program should contact the Rev. Don Fitzsimmons D'46.

Pine Street Inn at 444 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA - 4:30-6:30PM
Join the DCGB for our community service event at the Pine Street Inn. Founded in 1969, Pine Street Inn serves more than 1,300 homeless individuals daily and 10,000 annually, providing the full spectrum of services to help men and women reach their highest level of independence and get back to a place they can call home. Volunteers will be serving dinner to approximately 300-400 guests in the men's inn. Family and friends are welcome. We have space for up to 10 volunteers to participate in this event. For more information or to sign up to volunteer, please email Jane Parkin Kullmann D'01. We hope to see you there!

14 September
First  Year  Parents'  Night,   Burlington  Marriott  Hotel,  One  Burlington  Mall  Road,
                                      Burlington, MA - 6:30-8:30PM

The DCGB is hosting dinner and a panel discussion for the parents of the Class of 2014. The Club hopes to provide parents with an opportunity to ask questions and gather information that may not have been addressed by the College. Topics often range from laundry to parking to pizza and anything else of interest to attendees. The evening also affords an opportunity for parents to meet one another just as their new college students have been meeting one another during freshman trips. The cost is $25 a person; dinner will be provided, and a cash bar will be available. Please RSVP by Friday, 4 September 2010; if you have any questions, please email Jane Parkin Kullmann D'01. We look forward to welcoming you into the Dartmouth family.

10th Annual Fall Foliage Hike at Dogtown Commons, Gloucester, MA - 1:30PM
We are heading to a different corner of greater Boston for this year's hike. Dogtown is definitely one of the more interesting places around here to explore. It is a ghost town, last inhabited in 1830. Originally called 'The Commons', as the final residents left or passed away, dogs were left behind to live wild - hence the current name. Structures have since disappeared: only a few cellar holes remain. We will walk along some of the original roads, woods trails, and pass by two reservoirs and glacial moraines. Along the way we will seek out a few cellar holes and locate several large boulders carved with inspirational statements which Roger Babson (founder of Babson College) commissioned during the 1930s. The hike will be four miles long over mostly level terrain with one small hill. Please contact Mark Rosenblum D'81 for more details and updates about the hike.
