We are pleased to announce that 21 students from Georgia will join the Dartmouth College Class of 2014. This year's delegation was chosen from a pool of 18,778, and based on the admission rate of 11.5%, during the most competitive application year in Dartmouth history. As in past years, Georgia students were admitted at a higher rate than the overall applicant pool, with 42 of the 291 applicants statewide, or 14.4%, offered admission.
As mentioned on the home page, one of our most important alumni activities is interviewing applicants for admission. Evaluations submitted by alumni are used by the Admissions Office to assist them in the thousands of careful decisions which must be made every year. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the 98 alumni who interviewed the applicants from Georgia during the 2009-2010 season. The insights and commentary provided by our alumni were certainly appreciated by the Admissions Office, and were an integral part of the decision-making process.
Overall, of the students admitted to the Class of 2014, 95.3% were ranked in the top 10% of their secondary school's graduating class, including 39.9% who were valedictorians and 11.9% who were salutatorians. The mean of their SAT scores are: 733 for Critical Reading, 741 for Math and 740 for Writing.
Of further note:
* The numbers of men and women admitted were even at 50% each.
* Admittees come from across the nation as well as around the world: 14% were from New England; 27% were from the Mid-Atlantic; 11% were from the Midwest; 17% were from the South; 22% were from the West; and 8% were international students.
* Students of color comprise 44% of the admitted group.
* First-generation college students comprise 11% of the admitted group.
* Children of Dartmouth alumni/ae comprise 9% of the admitted group.
