Dear Members of the Dartmouth Club of Georgia:
I am honored to receive the Dartmouth Club of Georgia Scholarship, and I thank you for helping me to continue this incredible experience I am having as a Dartmouth student.
Recently, I returned from the Barcelona LSA, which consisted of coursework at the University of Barcelona, home-stay with a Catalan family and travel throughout Spain. My Dartmouth travels transcend the classroom, as I played with the Dartmouth Rugby Football Club against teams in Argentina and Uruguay during our 2006 Spring season. We are also preparing for a tour in South Africa during the upcoming Spring break. These experiences abroad were the most profound periods of my life. While in Buenos Aires and Barcelona, I grew a great affinity for the cultures and made friends with whom I still keep in contact. After graduation, I intend to explore more of the world as an economic researcher in Central or South America.
My term's coursework focuses on international macroeconomics and markets. I am also auditing Tuck's Intro to Entrepreneurship class and preparing two business plans, one of which will be entered in Dartmouth's Annual Entrepreneurial Competition. As a work-study student, I critique fellow students' papers for the RWiT Writing Center. Lastly, I am co-owner and CFO of Vox Sportswear, a student owned and operated apparel business. Vox Sportswear has given me experience in basic accounting and business principles.
Once again, I thank you and I hope to meet those of you to whom I have not been introduced in the near future.
Sincerely,
Gordon Silvera '08
