Record group braves weather for Triangle Holiday Dinner
Despite a spate of North Carolina?s imitation of wintery weather, a record group gathered at
the University Club in Raleigh for the Triangle?s annual holiday dinner on December 16th.
Highlights of the gathering included John Kavanagh ?58?s reading of a moving thank you letter
from our current scholarship recipient, Robert Polanco?11, Kris Carlock ?88?s recognizing the
five book award winners in attendance, and a lively discussion of current life at Dartmouth
among the three current students and three ?10s in attendance and the group as a whole. The
book award winners (several of whom are applying to Dartmouth) were Spencer Budd (The
Elon School), Brendan Burns (Raleigh Charter), Elizabeth Bynum (Durham School of the Arts),
Renee (pron. Rani) Gupta (Southeast Raleigh) and Patricia Stewart (St. David?s). Current
students and ?10s were Kevin Jackson ?10 (headed for New York), Brendan McVeigh ?10 (new
job in RTP), Taylor Stevenson ?10 (visiting from Minnesota), Marissa Gilmore ?11, Chelsea
Perfect ?12, and Liliana Pressler-Kennedy ?14. Also joining the festivities were President
Steve Lough ?87, Steve Day ?84, Nathan Gilliatt ?87, Todd Hemphill ?78, Dudley Kay ?67,
Doug Koenig ?77, Allison Mangin ?97, Geoff Scott ?70, Josh Stein ?88, Jeff Swain ?64, Beth
Wasserman ?99, Andrew Weiss ?67, plus several parents, spouses and friends. Early admit
Nicolina Mascia sent regrets because she was both working at the family restaurant and studying
for two exams that night (evidence of why she earned early admission, perhaps).
