December 12, 2003... Dartmouth Club Lunch and Speaker - Tuesday, Jan 13, 2004

Dear Dartmouth Community,

For those of us who were able to attend Tuesday's gathering, we were treated to an exciting and thought provoking presentation and discussion by Michael Groden on James Joyce, Ulysses and multimedia approaches to pedagogy. Thank you, Michael. For all of us, including those who werenot there on Tusday, for reasons owing to seasonal imperatives or cultural philistinism, here is a chance to revitalize the gray matter in the new year.

Date/Time: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 12:00 pm
Place: Torys, 79 Wellington St West, 32 floor.
Cost: $20.00 (students free)
Speaker: David Pecaut, Chair, Toronto City Summit
Alliance and CEO, iFormation Group.

RSVP: PLEASE to Anita Dias at adias@torys.com. Please indicate whether you will bringing a significant other (assuming it's a person) with you.

Happy and restful holidays to all,

December 3, 2003... December 9th speaker

Hi,

I'm pleased to announce that the speaker for the Dartmouth Club meeting on December 9th is Michael Groden, a Professor of English at the University of Western Ontario and a fellow alumnus.

Michael is a modern literature specialist with expertise in James Joyce's works. That's difficult stuff, and one of the things that Mike will address is his effort in making a work like Ulysses more accessible to the broader public.

Some themes he may touch upon:

  • what makes a literary work important and keeps it important?
  • how can a work like Ulysses, which most people read in college and university courses, be brought into the wider culture?
  • how can computer technology aid people in reading and studying literature?

The discussion should be very interesting, and relevant. Rest assured, the discussion format will be informal, and there's no expectation that you will have read Finnegan's Wake by Tuesday :-)

See you there,

Chris Chen

December 1, 2003... venue change

(limit 1 per person) could attend our next gathering. Our response:
"Sure, why not".

Please advise Anita Dias at adias@torys.com if you plan on coming

Thanks,
Ken
