Hi,
I am pleased to announce that the speaker for the Dartmouth Club meeting on Tuesday, December 13th is David Pecaut.
Mr. Pecaut plans to speak about fulfilling the vision of Toronto, a compelling topic given the recent change of leadership at the city, provincial, and federal levels of government. As Chair of the Toronto City Summit Alliance, David Pecaut has catalyzed a coalition of GTA civic leaders to work together and revitalize the region. His efforts have contributed to a constructive public dialogue and action plan for the city.
A more detailed biography about Mr. Pecaut is [provided below].
The meeting will be held at Torys law firm this Tuesday at Noon. Please RSVP with Anita Dias at your earliest: ADIAS@torys.com or 416-865-7500 x4096.
Look forward to seeing you there,
Chris Chen
David Pecaut Bio
A resident of Toronto, David Pecaut is the CEO of iFormation Group. Founded in 2000 by David with the backing of The Boston Consulting Group, Goldman Sachs, and General Atlantic Partners, iFormation has built and funded new businesses in online travel (Site 59), electronic payments (E One), and intellectual property licensing (ip Value).
Prior to launching iFormation, David founded and managed the Toronto office of The Boston Consulting Group and founded BCG's global e-commerce practice area. Under David's guidance, BCG's e-commerce team grew to offer clients a full spectrum of e-commerce expertise ranging from solving specific problems to managing the rapid start-up of entire online businesses such as Orbitz, the on-line travel agent owned by a consortium of U.S. airlines.
A well-known speaker and writer, David has advised companies and governments on public policy issues in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. He has appeared as a speaker and commentator on CNN, CBC, CTV, CNBC, CBC, and CBS, and he has been featured or quoted widely in newspaper and magazine articles in publications ranging from the Wall Street Journal and Business Week to the Globe and Mail and Maclean's. His articles have appeared in publications from Time Magazine to the Harvard Business Review.
David is currently the Chair of the Toronto City Summit Alliance, a coalition of civic leaders in the Toronto region, which has formulated an action plan to revitalize the region. The City Summit Alliance report released in April, 2003, is a blueprint for tackling the major issues facing the city region, and the Alliance leadership is committed to seeing it implemented.
David founded and chairs Toront03 Alliance, a non-profit corporation dedicated to reviving tourism in Toronto in 2003 post-SARS. Toront03 has raised $11.3 million in private and public funds and launched major advertising, website, and PR campaigns aimed at bringing visitors back to Toronto.
David was the founder and Chair of the Canadian eBusiness Roundtable, a public/private forum which brought together business, technology, and government leaders to jointly formulate policy recommendations to accelerate the development of e businesses in Canada. Launched with the support of Industry Minister John Manley, the Roundtable saw most of its recommendations adopted by the federal government within two years of its creation.
David was also the co-founder of Career Edge, Canada's national non-profit youth internship program launched in 1996 to address the challenges youth face in gaining their first job experience after graduation. As of 2003, 8000 young Canadians have become Career Edge interns, and the program, with over $150 million of revenues to date, is the largest non-profit in Canada which is exclusively managed as an e business.
David holds a Master's in Philosophy from the University of Sussex, England, and a BA magna cum laude from Harvard University.
