2011 Dartmouth Club Book Award

At the end of this school year, we will be awarding the Dartmouth Book Award to area high school juniors. The award is intended to recognize and encourage outstanding scholarship, leadership, generosity of spirit, and good decision making. The recipient of each Dartmouth Book Award shall be selected by the faculty and/or staff of each participating school from that institution's current junior class using the following criteria:

Intellectually vibrant

• Within the top 10% of the class, academically.
• High achievement in creative activities.
• Considered a candidate for entrance to a college or university of the highest academic caliber.

Generous Spirit

• Demonstrated ability to earn the respect of both followers and leaders in a peer community.

• Demonstrated commitment to seeking opportunities to serve others.
• Demonstrated commitment to the value of being open and accepting of others.

Good Decision Making

• Demonstrated ability to assimilate information from diverse sources and draw logical conclusions.
• Demonstrated ability to visualize short, medium and long range consequences.
• Demonstrated ability to take educated risks in multiple facets of life.

This year, we are awarding a personally inscribed copy of "100 Greatest Music Stories Never Told," the newest book by Rick Beyer D'78 (award winning author and History Channel producer). In recent years we have made awards to deserving juniors at:

• Big Picture High School
• Global Connections High School
• Highline Choice Academy
• Olympia High School
